Old plant experiences?

I have my original mother plant I think I'm about to throw into flower. Just looking for some input on anyone's experience with a fully matured very old plant and what outcomes was. What was maybe needed differently.

She is over 4ft tall at moment, still in veg but I have cut hours back slowly. Explosive growth but not like her clone half the size. They both are just as wide as they are tall. I'm almost 100% certain I will need to use ties, twists, sticks, and hangers to keep them up and supporting weight of buds once I flip.

They are very pungent in smell, even without any preflower. They both ofcourse do have the hairs at every interlude. About 6months ago alot of my bottom leaves turned icy on own with trichones and smell was very strong, they died off in the lower canopy so I think she was just trying to protect herself.

Anyway, just throwing it out there because I could not find any reads on dealing with older larger plants; if any different. I would think so though in all honesty that it's a different beast.

Thank you for your inputs and guidance, any experience you have. I just joined this site today, I did have a profile before "PurpleBudz" but could not for life of me recover account.

Thanks guys

Yes Yes yes....that's about right. Although I have lollipopped them so lower canopy is clean and only solid wood branches with bark.

The main mother is about 30months old....planted April of 2021.

I've got the 2 (original mother and clone) under a 1000watt (1200watt) light....from the original 250watts of combination HPS and LED.

It's certainly mature, and she so badly wants to flower. I understand 12/12 but not wanting to pull trigger just yet until they get fully acclimated and roots stretched from ball they had become.

I'm thinking I may need to build a rack above them to drop string to help support them for when I do. Being 4ft tall I worry that they'll want to stretch up too 7ft. Fully intend when I support them, to do it at an angle.

Bottom of trunk is a good 1" thick...the "abuse" and stress at times I've pushed her to limit. Even at 15/9 she's under now from the 18/6 they've always been under has her prepping for flower, her normal hairs are a lot longer and smell has increased. She wants it bad but just not yet I say lol (slowly over past couple weeks every 3 days or so I've added 1/2hr dark. Stopping at this point until 12/12

Your gonna need a ladder

I just went and checked on my ladies this morning like normally do and wouldn't you know it; damn 15/9 has made the oldest onee preflower! I was slowly working my way too 12/12....wasnt going to push the bar any further until I got the clones I wanted. I haven't even really defoliated at all, only removing fans that I couldnt tuck that blocked new growth shoots.

I guess after 30months on a 18/6 she is more than eager.

Can I still take the high shoots as clones without messing her up? I also noticed I got some 1 leafs that sprung up, hoping they are not from my removing slowly of some trouble fan leaves during last week?

Also could the cold snap make her do that? The smaller clone (although normal hairs a little longer) doesn't have all the white pistols like the mother does now.

I wanted to take clones, was planning to spread her out and hang string, level canopy by removing clones....she's taking off it appears jumping gun only on 9hrs dark.

You can take clones anytime during the flower period. I try to take them at the two week flowering mark. They regenerate quicker and the clones will be as bushy as a bikini bottom from 1970.

I'd throw her into 12/12. She's ready to go obviously.. lol. I hope ya do a flowering journal for this beast. It's going to be fun to watch.

Get a ladder yet?

As it is if I take a clone it will have about 3-4 shoots on it 1" tall already....very bushy.
