I dont recommend it at all, go for hps if you are going to do this.

LEDs are a new technology, you want to go with companies that have good warranty and that are easy to deal with, you know where my 2 90watts ebay UFOs are? One was broken and I kept it to maybe use the frame for a DIY and the other is useless and they are both collecting dust. Any other LEDs I have bought (blackstar, diamond, hss, kessil, FERO, ...) they are all still running, blackstar has got a few missing diodes but it still running.Recently I bought FERO's/AREA 51 and they have lifetime warranty

I bought 5 blackstar 500, I'm selling the last two tomorrow, I used them for one cycle in flower (was not impressed) but from then on I used them in veg and THOUGHT they were great, until I found a led panel more geared for veg (blue) . I can honestly say I'll never flower again with led but fully intend to put together my own custom spectrum/diode/lenses and do a diy panel, they make it too easy . my diy will be mainly blue and white since I will only veg with them.

Yeah I have read many threads saying they work and they don't work for flowering. But I have read plenty of grow journals with happy outcomes, so I'm set on buying LED. In the end from 5 Autos, I would be happy with 4 1/2 zips.

Nice thread i have been thinking for long time to buy or not to buy those ebay "cheap" leds. Well i think ill go with blackstar as it fits my budget and wattage. Ofc if someone know any good led lights below 300$ and 200w-300w im more than interested. :)

I bought 2 of these used with the black star label before I knew there were blackstar knock offs. They work ok but do not expect to grow more then 1 plant per pannel and hope it will stay short. I would say that the ones I have are equivalent to a 100w hps bulb, which is actually fine for me. If you don't mind using a pannel that is = to a 100w HPS, go for it. LEDs have come a long way but they still have a long way to go until they can compete with a CMH or HPS bulb for a reasonable price. I think my next move will be to either supplement my panels with a 150W CMH or sell them off and make a real investment in something like an illumitex Neosol NS or similar. DIY is another path I am considering.

btw, you should look into 12/12 from seed as opposed to auto's ... similar yield / time-frame , more potency more variety less energy

Mhmm good points, however horrible execution.

Sarcasm aside - Good luck on the LED's. Personally I think with LED's you get what you pay for (And even sometimes you pay and still don't get results).

I'm from NZ as well I think you could possibly be one of the very few New Zealanders to try LED lighting or even know what it is...
If you're going to run a grow journal then I wouldn't mind checking it out.. :)

And I just saw you're gonna order two of them? (Lucky the shipping is free!)

You could get 400w - 4-6 plants in vertical easy in that tent(1mx1mx2m?) and yield about half to a full pound easy for much cheaper and all you have to deal with is the heat and a whole $100 that it will cost to run the light for 3 months.
It may not have perfect PAR in relation to the plants but it is 100% proven to work. Found two links 400w with MH & HPS + Batwing reflector = 230NZD - Shipped and 400w w/ MH & HPS + Coolhood = 300NZD- Shipped or even a 600watt like here or here

Oh and any idea what you're going to do for a carbon filter? I was thinking of picking up a Phresh filter mainly because they're so light/compact but the cheapest price I've found is 300NZDish w/ shipping

Just curious man, good luck!

p.s. Sorry for the long post, first time I've ever found a NZ grower on RUI
p.s.s. Opps I feel bad posting about HPS/MH in a LED grow subforum - I didn't even notice sorrry~

No worries, but yet again I'm still going to use LED, and happy with the outcomes I have read from journals. NOW I have found cidly, and there Apollo 6, which I'm fucking keen on, but unsure what light ratio to use. Carbon filter, porb going to buy it from easygrow in auckland, as I'm sure shipping would be a bitch getting it from overseas. Good to see another New Zealander!

I'm in hawaii and know what it's like to get f'd on shipping... Anyway, I was in the same boat a few months ago and almost went with the Chinese manufacturer that makes most of the led grow lights that mostly get rebranded and bumped up in price by the resellers. I ended up going w an American company with a grower feedback program that offers a discount if you journal your grow... Anyway, you could save some bucks if you go direct and they will ship anywhere for free. I don't know what kind of customer service you'll get from them if anything breaks down but I bet you get better performance than that eBay stuff:
