one plant grow box

alright i need some opinions on a one plant grow box.

2ft legth, 2ft width, 4ft height

with 4 cfl bulbs

3 gal pot

not sure what to use for ventilation

any suggestions and help!!!!!!!

lots of people use computer fans.

only grow feminized seeds or clones

i use one of the big 125w cfls in a small box and all i did for ventilation was cut a 4"x4" hole in the back of the box

what cfm fan should i use

sounds pretty legit, well you figure that is 16 square feet, so any fan seems like it would work considering youre suppose to remove all the air in your room 1 time every 5 minutes or something like that. I'd get 2 computer fans, wire them each to a 12v ac adapter and viola intake + exhaust that is probably enough. Since youre doing CFLs the heat probably wont be too much of an issue, you could even use 1 fan and cut a hole for intake but put a filter over it so youre not sucking in dirty air. What Wattage on the CFLS?

most computer fans are rated at like 30-100 CFM, however I have a 80CFM overvolted by 4watts and it seems like it still doesn't produce as much suction as my 50CFM bathroom fan, could be the housing.
Edit: Your room is 16Cubic Feet you want it to circulate the air once or more every 5 minutes. I'd go with any fan above 25-30CFM just to be safe, the more fresh air, the better.

what to you guys thing about the dementions 2x2x4 nothing is bought or built yet so i can change it. i do not know much about wiring are there comp fans that i can just plug into an outlet?

what do i do to make light not come through the fans when light is off

Maybe this is the blind leading the blind, but I wonder what kind of quantity do you want in what kind of time frame?

If you want something in 3-4 months then that is probably just fine for you. If you want to let the plant grow and decide when then I'd suggest 5 or 6 ft depending on your strand. You can gain up to 12" or more on flowering if your using any blue with the red spectrum. Also, I'd suggest ordering out and getting a bit higher wattage bulbs, 40-60 watt, 'specially for flowering. That or add a few bulbs lower dow so the whole plant can get light and do well in production. With ventilation I've used two 120mm fans rated for 70 or 80 CFM. Wired them to AC to DC converter rated for pretty much what the fan ran on. Worked like a charm. I put filter over the intake and exhaust. (Intake for the fresh air and light and the exhaust to help keep down on light emmision.) Just goto Walmart, over by the air filters and fans, and grab the active carbon replacement filters and cut them in half. Either duct tape down or you could construct a hold down ring to screw down.

There are a few more variables then the simple ones.

I would go 2x2x3ft for your box, you can find info on how to wire the fans and create light traps in the FAQ at the top right of the page.

only other thing about your plans is i would move the intake kitty-corner from the exhaust as opposed to in a straight line... should make your air vortex more (might not even need the oscalating fan that way) Good luck!

It is not 100% light trap, but it does a pretty good job. As far as pictures, give me a few min. I need to replace one anyways. I'll need to un wrap the tape to desolder.

Not a problem, glad I can finally be of help to someone. I've been researching for over 6 months now. I still have a LOT to learn.

AC TO DC CONVERTER



The fan is 12 volt DC / 0.32 Amps / 3.84 Watts. While the converter does 12 volt DC / 0.5 Amps. I got two fans and two converts for like 70 bucks. You could pheasably just get 2x 4" Duct In-Line fans and get about the same CFM for louder then pc fans. The other thing you want to consider is odor an issue?

As far as the fan thing, assuming it hasn't been answered yet. Put the intake fan lower back corner of the right wall and put the exhaust upper front of the left wall. Makes the air have to move to get to the exit. Should cause some wind stimulation. Good til your about 6-10" then you may need to find a way to increase the wind production.

*EDIT* Also, when I had the wires spliced I hooked up the converter to the fan, twisting the wires together to find converter polarity or fan blow/suck direction. Just be ready to unplug the thing just incase there is an error.

**EDIT** The reason why I say about the inline fans is cause they run between 20-30 bucks each, making it possibly more affordable.

Yes, an ac adapter looks like a cell charger. Howerver... *looks at the two cell chargers near by* .. nope... it looks like both of the cell chargers I have are 5 volts .5 amp. Means my fans would run slower then what they do now, about 1/2 speed. It would give me the right CFM, but having a 150 watt HPS I need air moved to keep things cool.

As far as the whole adapter question. You don't need a AC to AC or DC to DC. If the fans where AC I'd just use a cheap extension cord and splice in that way, but wall plug is AC and the fans are DC. If I would have realize that 4" inlines where only 20 bucks I might have considered it. No wiring needed (has a normal plug and all) and it's pre marked for flow direction.

Still, question is odor a real issue for you? if it is, a simple filter replacement might not suffice. Just with mature plants there was a slightly noticable odor when someone entered the room. (edit) I never noticed it cause I either smelled like cars or was in it for a substantial period of time.
