Opening a legal grow operation in Colorado. Need Advice.

At the end of this year, I'll be opening up a grow operation here in Colorado. I'm currently based in Boulder, but looking to open outside of Boulder proper.

My family background is in horticulture and subsistence farming, so I feel I have the skills for growing, but I really need to brush up on the other aspects of the profession. I'm currently reading over the Colorado laws and regulations, but feel like I need a lot more regarding the business model.

In particular, I'm very in the dark on how to build relationships with retail establishments. I'm willing to put in an endless amount of work to make this a reality, and I need to do a ton of research. I am just having trouble finding the proper resources to DO the research.

Please advise?

Thanks!

Hey,

Talk to a lawyer, but be sure you get all your questions on paper before hand so you dont forget anything important. Those consults are expensive ;)

From what we were able to gather, nobody is allowed to profit from Marijuana unless they have a cultivators license for either the medical or recreational aspect of things. They are separate.

You can be a caregiver to a certain amount of people. Its been a while, but I think each person can be a caregiver for up to five people. You can grow and give to those patients, and they can reimburse you for the cost of the grow and your time spent growing. So, say you work 40 hours a week in your garden, you can charge an hourly rate (whatever you think your times worth) on top of the total cost of the grow, then figure out your pricing from there.

Make *SURE* you catalog everything. If you have money coming in, and marijuana going out, you damn well better be able to prove on paper that you are only recooping costs until you get a license.

Also, any plants you grow have to be in an enclosed locked space. Im pretty sure as long as you have four walls and a ceiling, and a door that can be locked leading into the enclosure that you are good to go. So a greenhouse, or a carport turned greenhouse, would work if you framed in a door and put a lock on it.

There is a lot more to this, so please read through all the rules on the colorado.gov website or whatever. After you're familiar with it, id still really talk to a lawyer. It seems like theres a lot of grey areas and lame rules in the law, so be safe.

We will be joining you the first of the year, if all goes well ;)

Good luck to you and yours.

The last I have heard is that you CAN"T sell to the dispensaries . They have to grow their own supply . They can only buy 30% from another dispensary .

They can buy up to a certain percentage (30 sounds right, but im not sure) from a licensed cultivator.
