Opinions on ruderalis/autoflower?

was thinking about growing a ruderalis plant this season and just wondering what those of you that have grown them think?

Ive heard they only give a small yield?

I want to try them as the weather here is unpredictable, and seeing as im growing outdoors i cant control light conditions and i dont want them to flower early.

Some yield good, some have potency.
Problem to me is, the buzz is very specific. Not much head buzz at all just a body buzz.
I would, never in my life, purposefully grow a ruderalis again.
Basically you take a really crappy ruderalis that isnt worth jackshit and cross it to a good strain.
You basically just took a good strain and made it into a crappy ruderalis.

I've been growing an auto strain and liked it. It produced a lot and was potent. I'd say it was my favorite to grow because it finished 2-3 weeks faster. I like how they aren't sensitive to light in flower. One thing I liked is the ability to run a perpetual grow under the same light schedule. When you have 3 plants at different stages of life (early veg, transition, late flower) it lets you apply what you learned from the older plant to the newer ones. That accelerates how fast you "dial it in" (or learn to grow). The number of variables you can adjust in 1 year would take 2-3 years if you had to wait 3-4 months for a single tent of photos to finish before starting new plants. (But, you can do this with 12/12 from seed.).

The downside is they use 33% more electricity for lighting (and cooling the heat from the light in the summer). Also, you don't have control over the size of the plant. It grows until it automatically flowers. That could be a concern in a short grow space. With a photo, you can top/fim/supercrop and switch to 12/12 after just 2 weeks of veg (even do 12/12 from seed).

idk.. I kinda think one of the many big problems with autos is that you can't "dial it in." There's no cloning so you can't really get into a strain imo and since you're starting from seed every time, what may have been potent and good yielding one time, may not be so the next.

I grew a small tent (4) of free autos and while the cheese candy looked and kinda smelled like weed, it only got you high as althor described.. It was almost an uncomfortable, brown swag feeling.. not what I'm growing for.. And the other 3 were even worse..

Long story short; autos aren't for me.. people would ask me wtf I rolled up when I had this crap, no joke..

autoflowers are my pre-game smoke now. I run them indoors for a month and take em outside in spring to ensure a hefty harvest before the big girls are ready.

Ive had some really good autoflowers and some realty shitty ones. Through the computer ad description of the strain I was expecting awesome results. Don't believe what they say. I had some really good smoke and it was very potent but the yield kinda sucked, and I had some decent yield but the smoke kinda sucked. Ive also had some with great yield and great smoke. I like to throw autos in with my photos for a half time snack. What Im saying is that most of them are not stable and sometimes the results you get will not be what your expecting. Its a gamble and if you do decide to do an auto grow, do some research on reputable breeders and peoples reviews on the strain, otherwise if your worried about the weather and roughness on the plant then find a strain that's naturally from that type of environment. These plants can take a lickin and keep on kickin. Good Luck
