I guess I'll start the Oregon thread this year, look forward to hearing from Oregonians on their outdoor grows. So far, I hope we get some more rain! Otherwise this could be a bad fire season, and obviously that's bad for far more than just the plants in our gardens.

My grow is evolving a bit this year, I built what could be called a "high tunnel" or "rigid hoophouse", because it's not fully enclosed and so I don't think it would fit the definition of a Greenhouse. Primary purposes are to hang bug netting on to keep the worms away, and to keep any late season rain off. New structures and methods always have a learning curve, so we'll see how this goes.

I've had some issues with sprouting this year too, somewhat different space and we had some very warm weather which created climate issues for me. But I think I've pulled through. Seeds are their own world, it's taken me a while to get a sprouting method I'm comfortable with, and I still making changes. Did you get feminized seeds? I'll be growing some in pots and some in the ground also, and probably an experimental one or two in a Roots 707 bag to see how that goes.

Well looks like were going to have cooler temps for a few days and a little rain. But it isn't going to make a difference. It's going to be dry. I'm worried about fires as well.

I'm growing some auto's outside this year. I have a bunch of freebie seeds. Only 2 have come up so far so if the other doesn't pop I'll replace it with one of of my Durbistan F6 and hope for a female. If it's a male I'll collect the pollen. I also have an Ethiopian that survived all winter in the greenhouse. One thing is it never flowered. It's a female plant but it just basically stalled and did nothing. The main top died but the lower branches lived and it's a little bush now. I don't know what it's going to do but I'm going to find out.

This was a mutant that grew much slower than the rest. It never hit the flower tent with the others and I just put it outside where it did nothing. It's an odd plant. It's a year old. Maybe I have a non-flowering pheno. It does have female pre-flowering but I don't know why it didn't flower during the short winter days unless maybe the cold had something to do with it. Regardless, it's been around long enough to become part of the family so I'm going to give it some attention and see what she does.

Thanx for getting the thread started this year, @Humanrob . I'm in a holding pattern for a month or so, until my garlic is rharvested to free up spots in my raised beds for the 4 girls. My lineup for consideration:

Pakistan-Chitral-Kush - green pheno
Dutch Treat (knock off)
Wild Thai
Mad Villain

The PCK and DT are low profile plants that I should be able to get under a carport cover if they go too far into the monsoon season. While the DT is pretty heavy sativa, grown indoors she finished in 9 weeks from 12/12, so might have a shot at going the distance if I can keep the garden flora and fauna pests at bay. The MV, we'll see. It's a cross between a hemp and sativa, so could be a monster that goes well past Nov 1, but I need to give it a shot.

Anyone with experience with the PCK phenos? I'm in the process of feminizing pollen from both a red and green pheno, so interested in what to expect for dominance. The green pheno I have is bushy sucker.

I've grown lots of PCK. The green pheno is better than the red in my opinion but is rarer to find. I used PCK in a cross with Durban I've been working on for a few years I call Durbistan and I've gotten the red mostly bred out to where 90% is green but that red is a stickler and pops up now and then.

It the Wild Thai from World of Seeds? I've grown that indoors and it turned out pretty good.

I know you have quite a bit of experience with the PCK, so was hoping you'd chime in, Jay. Sounds like the red geno is a recessive, but seems odd that the green is less common. I'll try an S1 on the green and see what I get.

Yeah, the Thai is from WoS. Grew it fall and winter indoors, and probably the best weed I've grown. 9 weeks flowering, heavy yield, and a nice buzzy high. Plan to get a batch of Thai crossed with the green PCK.

From my experience the red is the most common and I searched for a green to use for making a cross. Even then the red kept popping up but slowly became less dominate as I kept using the green for breeding.

Yeah, all my seeds are feminized. They all sprouted great in 2" starter pots . It wasn't until about week 3 that I ran into problems with them. I was giving them water every 3 days and they started to suffer from it. A couple repots later and I'm well on my way with healthy plants. Nice looking plants! :) A hard lesson for me has been the self control not to over-react. One time I'll give them too much water, and then the next time I won't give them enough. I guess I'm just describing the learning curve, but it still surprises me when I do it.

I started with clones from dispensaries, then moved to regular seeds which were a pain for outdoor growing since I plant in the ground. At the time I had read bad things about feminized seeds, but like everything else in this industry, they seem to have come a long way in a short time. Speaking of come a long way, now I'm all autos, 100% feminized.

Autos still get a bad rap in some circles, but the way I see it even if they are only 80% as good as photos, the fact that most years I harvest 100% of my plants instead of losing as much as half of them to mold, it's worth it. I really like having plants in full flower under the warm dry August sun. Light dep seems like too much work, I guess that's the other way to get there.

After 4 summers of growing different genetics, I'm still looking for that mythical, sativa dominant strain that finishes by the end of Sept. Your strategy of growing autos outdoors would probably do it, but with our 4-plant rec limit, I'm reluctant to give up the yield I get from photos. I'm aware that with enough expertise autos have been improved to the point that they can produce pretty well, so I'll give them a try at some point, but just an emotional attachment to photos to get over.

How do you do with super autos? If I recall correctly, you've grown Amnesia Hash Plant from OGS outdoors. How did that go? Anyone tried Lebanese Hash Plant here in the Valley?

Honeslty, I don't even know what a "super auto" is. I just grow the best genetics I can find. Last year was all Mephisto, this year I'm branching out and also trying Dutch Passion, Roc Bud, and Fast Buds. I averaged 6 oz. per plant last year. If you can get by on that x4 plants, then it's good enough. The largest producing strains seem to all take longer, they'll still finish before photos but they start to push into September. My goal is to be done by the end of August, first week of September at the latest. So if I want to grow the big ones, I have to start them indoors earlier to scrub off a few weeks at the end.

The OGS Amnesia Hashplant was awesome. IIRC it finished by the end of September, but that was the year we got ripped off and someone stole about 1/3 of the plant, just tore off some main branches. Even though it finished early, it was still harvested probably a week or two before optimal. I never had an outdoor photo that finished the way I would finish an indoor, they were all taken down early, some a little, some a lot. I found those last few weeks to be somewhere between frustrating and tragic, depending on the weather that year. That got old, I found another route. It's far from perfect, there are drawbacks, but I'll say that so far quality has not been one of them.
