Outdoor growing question

If I'm gonna be growing outdoors, then I don't have any control over when the plants start flowering and going into other stages or whatever right? So I don't have to worry about 12/12 lights and stuff??

actually if you could make the sun stay up for the month of june and then make it go down every 12 hours for july and august, that would help me out a lot.
