Outdoor Scrog Grow Questions

Whats up everybody, hey so I have never used the scrog grow setup before but I am doing it this year mainly just to contain my plants in one area during flowering. Last couple years they got too big to contain to my garden, I have 4 plants in the ground and 4 different strains (I know, I know.. this is not good for scrog but i'm doing it for the variety). My question is do I just have one screen across around 3ft or should I do 2 screens another one around 5ft or so to continue to keep them all straight up? And also, should I setup the screen as soon as they hot the 3ft mark or do I really need to wait until they get close to flowering? I have heard alot of mixed reviews on this so I would appreciate any help possible. My garden tends to get about 6ft tall just fyi... Thanks for the help fellow growers!

If you're doing a scrog right you wont need two screens...When they veg..Weave them in and out of the 3 ft screen (could be lower).. also top them...

Great thats what I wanted to do! I will wait until they get close to the screen then start topping them and weaving them in and out. Thanks!

I think your gonna need a bigger screen. Scrogging outside is a little difficult when Mother nature decides when to flip the switch for the girls. By the time I filled my 5 X 5 screen last year in mid august the strain didn't start to Flower til mid September. I filled a whole nother screen and then had to trellis the top to hold the colas up.

one plant.

Wow! Very impressive, I was going to go with a 5x5 also. After seeing these I need to go Much bigger. And I noticed you went with the larger squares in the netting, I was going to go with something smaller is it personal preference or should I get the larger ones? last question, at what week did you start to lollipop them or did you just do it gradually through the entire veg stage? Looks like you know what your doing and I could learn alot from you, thanks for any advice you are willing to share!

Here is a pic of last years crop, this is late July right before flowering began to set in. This is why I want to Scrog because a couple got to 7ft tall in the back and were falling over. Its a small area but hey, you gotta work with what you got. The quantity and quality are great!!

You needed agriculture trellising....Doublejj said he gets his from agriculturesolutions.com and that was good enough for me...
Warning! it's hard to pay $80 for plastic....

That's just Ag trellis holding the buds from falling over. You can't see it but it is Scrogged thru what I think is 2 X 4 hog wire fence on the second screen . The first screen I scrogged thru I made the mistake of tucking thru nylon or plastic fencing. The plant is so strong it started to bow up the fence and rip the staples out. Use wire fencing and u nails. If you mean by lollipopping which it really isn't in this case , I trimmed out the lowers when all daylight was cut out. You keep tucking to fill your screen and try to time it right so your screen is full and just a couple of inches of the tops are out of the screen when the stretch starts . The fine line to walk for bigger colas is to get enough length of the tops out before the stretch to get long colas but not turn back into a bush. The screen was dropped on top around the end of June first of july and was 4 ft tall.

You can see the work screen here:

a few weeks in.

getting close. I think I harvested her a week before Christmas.

What strain bro?

Thank you SBW ! it was a lot of fun and even more work. The strain was Drizella from Dynasty.
I think we will be scrogging Cherry pie this year.

Thanks for all the advice! I grew all GSC last year but this year I am going: Trainwreck, Headband, XJ-13, and Afgoo. Wanted a variety of Sativa and Indica, its gonna be difficult to maintain a canopy but i'll do my best with it. Cant wait, I love the farming season in CA!!

I have a cherry pie this year too...
it's a 9-10 week strain...
are you worried about over filling the scrog again?

I made a screen for two of my 18 gallon plants this season.but I'm having a bitch of a time keeping the legs unwonkey....and keeping it upright...
it's 4' x 10' made from bamboo poles and the same "screen" you used....
We get coastal winds here and I see this ending badly...any ideas?

also is your trellis 4" x 4" or 6" x 6" so I have better scale....
A Class, Number One work, my friend...you have much to be proud of!

Like most folks in the city I have fence height restrictions or dangers I should say. As I mentioned out door scrogging is kinda a little hard to time right . Im starting two weeks later than I did last year and the plants in the tent are on 15 hrs of light trying to keep them small. Over filling the screen isn't that bad, just drop another screen on it if ya have to but topping and weaving are your friends.

maybe you can bury your legs in the dirt or run cross stays to help . build your table with 2x2's and 2x3's. sometimes you have to tie or weight the table to the ground cause the plant will lift it. That was 6x6 trellis. And boy oh boy , Cherry pie has some stretch to her. I think it will be a good scrogging strain because it needs to be cohursed to branch out and the stretch will help .

Great advice. The trainwreck and headband I have are looking like some stretchers so I am sure they will be good to Scrog. The XJ-13 and Afgoo might barely touch the screen... Hahahaha! :weed: Grow on!
