Oxygen/moisture absorber?

can i use those oxygen/moisture absorbers that come in beef jerky to put in my glass jar to help when curing and drying?

That stuff is called silica gel. I dont know if it will help but I suspect that It would dry it out too much.

Probably help a bit. I doubt it would instantly dry your shit out. Let me know how it goes. I like my weed bone dry cuz of the better THC/weight ratio.

or cou can go to a chemical supply store and buy a whole of silica gel for cheap. and its not on any watchlist of chemicals so they wont know the difference.
just an idea so long as my chemical brain is running amok, you need some type of pores dry material, cork comes to mind, dont know if it would work but its an idea.

I know this is an old topic, but oxygen absorbers are NOT silica gel. Silica gel packets absorb moisture. Oxygen absorbers contain iron oxide and remove oxygen. Big difference. And if you're going to use them, don't use an already used up one from a package of jerky - buy new ones. I use oxygen absorbers in vacuumed mason jars. Retards mold growth and keeps the the buds fresh.

So you recommend them then Fade? The thing is- they take the oxygen out of the air by turning it into moisture and they themselves stay dry. Therefore wouldn't it be best to also put in a moisture absorber? I know that mold cannot grow without oxygen but damp bud has got to lose some taste or something right?

you know i never considered this but it seems like it would help alot...i've seen these mini dehumidifiers in target that are small but not small enough to fit in a jar but small enough if you cure in larger containers...they're b/w $30/$40.

I told someone to use these before, just buy a bulk of the small packets and use them one by one till you reach your desired affect.
Don't take the one out of the beef jerky and use it because it is already worn out and will make your herbs smell funny! lol unless u like beefy smelling herbs :-P
The silica beads adsorb oxygen and moisture i believe.

they seem like a great idea but i'm wondering how many packets to use...it seems as the more silica the more moisture it will take out, but isn't curing supposed to be a slow process?

i wonder if these silica packets will take out too much??? Which size would be best? Just a thought.

maybe the loose moisture indicating gel may be good too with the moisture indicator cards...it's going to take some trial and error to find the right combination :)
