Oxygenated Water in Reservoir

OK, I have to believe this has been asked before...but cant find it anywhere.

If I have water sitting in a reservoir, does it need to be constantly oxygenated? Or just a bit before watering?

I mean, is there a benefit to having it constantly watered besides the fact that it will move the water around. IE could you do the same thing with a small pump and then just oxygenate a bit before you water?

This is just me purely thinking about things....

Is it water with nutrients? If yes, I suggest you do oxygenate it. I found that premixing batches go bad without oxygenated or undisturbed surface.

Nothing good comes from standing water.

Stagnant water will kill you at some point. Other than that you are good.

Just put a air stone in your res mate and your good to go

I have a commercial air pump, and know that with nutes I would need it, I was just wonder about plain water and the science of it.

Just get a small pump from a pet shop. They use less than 3W.

Its called dissolved oxygen. A plant is divided into 2 main groups; above ground and below ground. We pretty much know the above ground part that it needs CO2 and the process of photosynthesis. Below the ground (root) is the part that we often neglect. The root system requires a healthy amount of dissolved oxygen (hydro guys are very aware of this), low DO can hinder the growth of your root and would be prone to diseases (root rot) and you know an unhealthy root hinders its availability to uptake nutrients.

So, if you can 'maintain' a high DO saturation level in your water/solute it would translate to a healthy vigorous root system (this is what hydro is about). thus a healthy plant overall and better yield at the end.

If you are growing in soil, oxygenating your water will not provide any substantial increase to your soil 02 levels. Most of your oxygen will be pulled in behind the water put down, while old air is pushed out. That said, I run bubblers in my storage tanks to keep the water clean.

Say for example the water I collect from my dehumidifier, may take a couple of days to collect. If I am flushing should worry about oxygenating it first, or just water with it?
