CAP OZN-Jr. Ozone Generator / Hydroponics - eBay (item 290083347869 end time Mar-09-08 16:03:47 PDT)
A friend of mine got one and it's weird, it makes a really high pitched tone when it's on. It has a little plate on the back by the fan exhaust with two electrodes that glow purple. Can somone tell me if thats how it makes ozone?Or is this thing just an ionizer? Ionizers no good for our situation right? Also the add mentions switching between ion and ozone modes, also automatic and manual modes, And an lcd screen, My unit has none of those things, on or off thats it, BUT it looks exactly like the unit pictured, and the one in the picture doesn't have any lcd screen or switches for the modes that i can see either. WTF?

Ozone is the bad kind, it can be bad for plants, and is bad for humans if there is too much.
Ionizers are the shit, they help plants absorb co2 easier.

I don't know exactly about this product, but I do have some experience with ozone in general. I really like it, but I don't recommend it being your primary, or your only line of smell defense, if you know what I mean.

A few important things to remember. If there isn't enough ozone, you don't have any smell neutralizing, which defeats the purpose. If there is too much ozone, your plants will lose their scent (no one likes this), it could kill your plants, or kill you. So ideally, you need to find just the right middle way, which is difficult to dial in exactly, but once you have it, you are set. Also, you don't put the ozone generator in the same room as the plants, it will do them alot of harm.

Having an electric timer that you can dial the minutes helps. For instance, set it on for 1 minute every 5 minutes. Or for 2 minutes every ten minutes. The good news is, once you find the right time, you are golden.

But I like using them as like a secondary line of defense. I use a carbon scrubber, then an ozone generator. If the carbon starts wearing out, the ozone kills it anyway, and buys me some time to replace the carbon. But if the ozone generator isn't tuned in exactly right, the carbon gets rid of it anyway.

You should research this method of odor elemination & it's proper implementation before you condem it then deem it as harmfull, not only is ozone the best method for 100% odor REMOVAL it's safe as mothers milk if used properly.

Ozone is only harmfull if used improperly.

The product works well, but breaks within a year. It does have a 3 year warranty, but CAP customer service is horrible to say the least. I have been waiting for my replacement unit for over 3 weeks, after being told it would be send out the next day. I have spoke with numerous employees at R&M Supply aka CAP on numerous occasions including the COO and I still do not have my product and it's still not even being shipped. After many phone calls with the company, they admit they have issues with returned items and their process is broken for dealing with defective equipment. I would highly recommend buying from another company!!! They have let me down as a consumer, choose another product or it could happen to you. The employees will not even let you speak with the owner.

Im using a carbon filter and a ozone generator for odor control. I got a used one on Ebay for $31.00. I was getting a very slight skunk odor with just the filter. Hooked the exhaust up to a rubbermaid tub with the generator inside exhausting to a window. Eliminated the odor in every room in about 2 hours. I works better than I expected. Very effective.

You can see details on my post on topic at

sorry the link wont work. Tried to copy it but couldnt find out how

Best of luck with your grow.

The ozone generator will glow, the ionizer will not. Best used for cleaning air in a room that you are exhausting into, not in your grow room.
