Paying trimming help and other questions

Just trying to plan ahead and could use a little advice. Last year my wife and I did all the trimming ourselves, and it damned near did us in, as we are getting a bit old for this. Next season I am planning on trying to hire a few trimmers to give us a hand at this and was wondering what a fair wage is for trimming? I do not wish to buy or rent a trimming machine as I am not really impressed with the quality of trim they do and wish to maintain the highest quality in my bud. Am I wrong in this?
I've never had to hire anybody befor and am a bit aprehensive as to security.
Any advice would be really appreciated, thanks in advance.

(If I have cash on hand) I'll pay my friends $10 an hour to trim or give them green dope - I'll also bake them out along the way and feed them good - Sushi or Pizza sure keeps the help happy.
If you are in a legal state you could see if your area provider has any way to help, They may have staff that will work with you. I've met some cool people from all over the place who just love the harvest work & travel for some green work

standard rate around here is $20 an hour, payable in buds or bills. customary to smoke out the help along the way and feed them well, as was noted.

When I go help my buddy trim is plants he smokes with me the entire time and gives me 1/8-1/4 of what was being trimmed depending on how long and how any plants got done. $20 per hour is way high IMO even $10.

maybe drive by the local elementary school in a windowless panel van, and offer some kids free candy if they help you with the "Yard Work"... :weed:

but dont go for middle school kids, they bite and shit.

seriously though,
you cant just roll up to the home depot and shout "I need 4!" and wait for your new "employees" to pile in the back of your truck.

likewise you cant really hit up the local Temps R Us either.

bros, and bros' bros are your resource for finding nimble fingers to trim your shit. bro's always got your back.

You could also try and come up with a piece work payment model where the trimmers get paid by the cola or plant. You just have to be familiar with the average time it takes to trim a cola or plant to your standards. The usual smoking up and feeding workers still applies but this makes it fair so that the lazy workers get what they deserve (less $) as well as the hard workers (more $).

Yeah, im in same boat and im likely not trimming nearly as much as you might be. Not long after trimming this past season i had some kind of carpal tunnel deal where my hand swelled up and i swear it felt like i broke something. Theres no way i can trimm that much agian and im not risking bringing other people in. My current idea is to find some type of small powered trimmers if something like that exists. Any ideas?

you could get electric scissors or use a machine for your major trimming and then go in there with scissors

heres a diy hand held trimmer this guy made which Im thinking of making.

we average 3-4 oz from our bubba.... plants take about 2 hours to trim prior to take down.... pay my people 20 a plant plus a G they... make 60 plus a 1/8 a day

$100/pound or 1oz/pound. Plus food and some smoke. Paying people cheap can backfire. People become disgruntled.

I try to pay by work done, lazy people get less.

All good points. I saw an article in a mag about this once. The main points: make them very comfortable (good food and beer, a nice movie or music, plenty of smoke) this makes the time go quicker. And also, compensate very well. This assures less temptation to rip you off. Thats why some people get $20 an hr, especially if they do good work. Another thing that should help you avoid getting ripped as well as paying well, is a long term incentive. like, $5-10 off each 8th they buy in the future. This way, if your worried about thieves, they may be less inclined because taking a little now will make them loose a lot of good deals in the future.

If your going to pay someone def go by the pound. You'll get screwed doing it by the hour. Oz per lb was pretty common in Cali form the guys I worked for. Plus free smoke and bomb food all week. It will take someone 12 hours to trim a lb if they get paid by the lb.
