Peat Moss tablets for Germination?????

Hey I was wondering if anyone has ever used those peat moss tablets you put water on the grow up then you put ur seed into cover and let mother nature do work. If so how well do they work? I dont want to waste any seeds on them if they are crap. Any info would help . Thanks everyone

Being a first time grower I was equally hesitant about trying peat moss tablets out.

In fact, peat moss tablets work extremely well for germination, especially if you maintain the moisture at a fairly constant level.

Todd McCormick himself reccomends using these little lovelies for germination in his book, "How To Grow Medicinal Marijuana". This book is actually a fantastic read for first time or even intermediate growers.

I've used this exact method in my own grow, and I had a 100% germination rate. Use filtered water to germinate, chlorine is essential but there's a possibility that your local tapwater may burn the little babies in their vulnerable state.

p.s. I forgot to mention, never bury your seeds under too much peat! the holes in those tablets can be rather large but it isn't intended that you bury them that deep, more often than not the instructions will direct you to simply drop the seed in and wait. I personally collapsed the hole and buried the seeds about 3 millimeters below the surface of the tablet. Very effective!

Yeah, they work awesome. Stick the whole peat moss cube in a jiffy pot, keep warm, water frequently, and once it sprouts you can just drop the whole jiffy pot in larger pot with soil, water it, and the pot itself biodegrades, roots climb through. No more transplanting!

Mr Smily this pic is a peat pad, it worked as well as Pro Mix or water. I've read that they can keep the roots too wet and cause root rot but we'll see. I use covered cups as cloners too, like a biosphere, saves watering and other problems. 100% rooting so far, once your get your procedure down it's almost idiot proof. I use distilled water to soak the peat pad - neutral PH, no chlorine, no contaminants.

I germinate my seeds in my flower cage, the natural hot and cold cycle of the on/off light seems to speed germination. It's good to have opaque saran wrap covering the cup to disperse intense light, the cups will steam up.

The roots can bee seen at the bottom of the cup, there are a couple dozen poking out already.

Personally I would use Pro Mix (any good soilless) instead of peat pods, the roots seem to respond better. Just mix some up with distilled water so it stays together when squeezed but doesn't drip water.

They work fine, as long as they aren't soaking wet, or the seeds buried too deep.(the seeds will rot) I prefer germinating with the paper towel and plate method, then go to soil, but the pellets will work too. IDK, I just think soil is a more natural medium, plus has some nutes in it already and eliminates guesswork.

WOW you guys were totally right about the tablets I threw an old seed i found in a drawer just to see if it would grow and its sprouted already its been in the moss tablet just a day or two. Im totally using these things in aiding germination from now on
