I was gifted approximately 28 grams poppy straw a few months. During, that time I've been experimenting with various procedures to produce the perfect cup of poppy tea. The following excerpts were taken from a previous conversation regarding the potency of the straw and the measures taken to ensure a safe albeit enjoyable experience.
My first question was whether or not to break down the straw into a consumable extract or tea instead. My mentor advised me that tea was the best route given the amount I was working with.
After that, I reminded him I'm quite the opiate virgin and have experimented with oxymorphone off and one to avoid tolerance. I have never consumed poppy pod tea, and I do hear, that poppy tea fairs differently to any pharmaceutical preparation, due to the numerous alkaloids contain within the plant. With that in mind, I'd like my first experience to be a good and painless one. I've read tons of stories where people underestimate or erroneously calculated the dosage and the experience was consumed by sickness. Flu like symptoms including violent vomiting spells. The only spells I wish to consider is the ones I cast for myself. If you catch my drift LMFAO!
The Experience
I followed his advice and weighed out five grams, let those 5 grams marinate in a 100 ml's of lukewarm water, and proceeded to drink half of it. I'm glad I did because after 30 minutes I feel a definite sedative feeling. The come up is far different than pharmaceutical preparations. I would say ten minutes after drinking the tea I could already feel that giddy warm pressure rising to my head and limbs. Its been a hour since I dosed and the warmth has spread to all extremities, followed by a nice euphoria. At first it caught me off guard because the sedative effect was most noticeable. I could barely open my eyes and read a sentence on the computer screen.
This feeling, in my opinion, is far better than any pill I've ingested. There is something more genuine about this experience. I suppose the same can be said about San Pedro tea and isolated mescaline. This example truly shows how poorly a man does at imitating nature. The formula nestled within the decadent blossoms of the poppy pod stand taller than any pill behind a counter. The sweat and frustration growing poppies will be well worth it once harvest times comes.
As I write this, I ebb and flow between this oscillating energy of total content. I say oscillating because the feeling comes in goes and returns with the ever forgiving touch of euphoric bliss. Hell, I can see how this plant caused turmoil in the past. Trying to contain its power and restrict its flow and trade was a tactic to scare any nation. It has power to aid pain, inspire passion and creativity, and debilitate man in a cruel addiction.
The Aftermath
Last night was fun I must admit. Although, right after submitting the message the effects of the poppy tea diminished greatly. The total experience lasted two hours with residual effects lasting another couple of hours. The peak was quite short lived in comparison to other reports I've read including your feedback on the matter. I was curious why that might be?
My first suspicion is that the 5 gram dose spaced out interfered with the way poppy tea is metabolized which resulted in a shorter experience. Secondly, the brew was not steeped long enough with additional ingredients to increase potency. I hear that people include lemon juice and vinegar to increase absorption. Are those extra steps necessary to increase the duration?
I was hoping to ride out the experience until sunrise but it fell short a couple of hours to make that possible. I just can't imagine poppy tea experience lasting upwards of 24 hours. Whatever alkaloids or mechanisms within, that make that even a possibility, is nothing short of incredible.
So, I'm still left with the uncertainty of why the experience was so short lived when many accounts say otherwise. That's when I discovered the apparatus that has the potential to turn ordinary poppy tea into one extraordinary cup. Regardless of what you are brewing. Be it coffee or tea the Aeropress supersedes a french press by its brevity alone. Here is my setup I purchased today. One can easily be hard for as little as thirty bucks and can craft a better cup of coffee than any other high priced coffee machine out in the market.
Is anyone familiar with using an Aeropress. More importantly, what are your opinions on crafting the perfect cup of tea for maximizing your experience.
