period of darkness in between veg and flower cycles

I am getting ready to switch between a veg cycle (18 on 6 off - on from 6 PM to noon) to a flower 12/12 cycle. I've been told I should turn all my lights off for 36 hours in between. Do other people do this? And, if so, is it 36 hours from the time my lights go off on my last veg cycle? Thanks.

This is not necessary, just reset the timer to 12 hours at the next daylight cycle. People do this and it will not hurt your plant if you want to try, but this is more old wives tale than science.

i have heard of this, never tried it, purely for the reason that it doesn't happen in nature, and seems odd. but i guess thats no real reason. Many people suggest it gets the plants to start flowering sooner, personally, i don't mind waiting a few more days.

The idea is since the hormone that causes flowering is destroyed by light that this will somehow cause your plant to flower sooner. Haven't tried it, just been doing a straight switch over(18/6 to 12/12 as mentioned above) and had flowers/pistils showing in a week, no issues.

its true you will increase the level of the hormone that triggers flowering. The thing is though that more does absolutely nothing for you once you reach the level needed to induce flowering,. well, besides giving your plants less energy to start flowering with.

Thanks all. I just changed my avatar and added a pic of my girls taken about 30 minutes ago. I'm going to flip them tomorrow. First grow, feeling pretty good about it.

I have read several books that say you should let the plant stay in the dark for 24-36 hours........as to promote faster flowering, but none of the books really say in detail why? I dont think it really matters, but I will give it a try on my next flip. I have been vegging some Barneys Farms LSD for 5 weeks and should switch to 12/12 late next week. I am going to see what happens.....I assume they will streach some as they will be looking for some light. Good luck:

will stretch based on ingredients indica can double sativa can triple in first 1/4 to 1/3 of flower stretch based on how much of each

i used bush master for first time on a rez chemdog d x sour dielsel its supposed to stretch like stretch armstrong but did not it stoped vertical growth and bushed out but i had followed rez's instructions to grow to 6 nodes then top back to 2 nodes then grow to 15 inches and fower

good luck

My blue dreams gained 3 inches from 19 to 23 within the first 4 hours of its first 12/12 cycle. I didn't give a gap period just went 20/4 to 12/12.
