Perpetual cabinet grow

Hello fellow micro growers:blsmoke:
I am starting my first grow ever and documenting the process here for all to see (even when I screw up).

I have been studying everything I could about growing from all over the Internet and I am prepared to grow my own (let's hope so)
I'm posting here because Ive been all over the RIU forums and this area seems the friendliest and most helpful.
I am a week into my grow and I will be adding pics and details throughout the day when I get breaks.

These photos were taken yesterday exactly 7 days after the seeds were started in water.
The WWxBB is growing faster than the Afghani. now about 3" each.
these plants are destined to be my mother plants and I will take clones from them when they grow out. Since the afghani seeds are regular i planted both of the freebies I got from herbies In case one is male( hopefully not both are male, but I may collect the pollen if they are)

A bit too tall there. Get the lights a little closer to control that stretch between nodes. If you're using CFLs you want the light 1" to 4" from the leaves. The CFLs don't give off extreme amounts of heat and in many cases can be placed closer then 1" when dealing with mature plants. Also I'd let them dry out some. The one is already looking overwatered.

I agree they are too stretchy for my tasteI have 26watt cfl just out of frame about 3" above the taller one. I guess it's time for moar light. I only have 1 bulb in right now cause I didn't want to turn them into crispy critters. And yes they are over watered a bit but I haven't added water in 3 days just lettin them dry out a bit

Let em dry out a lot. Trust me with 26w CFLs you can get at least 1/4 of inch near that bulb and not fry your girls. I use up to 8 26w CFLs in my veg box and I keep em that close. I'm talking 1" or closer to get the most out of my CFLs.

Now I'm running 92 watts of CFL with an advertised lumen output of 1600 each . I thought they were 26watt but they are 23 watt. They are 2" above the tops. I don't want to go any closer with the heat. I took out the shelf because it was way too hot in the tiny upper part. I hate having to stack boxes to raise them up so I'm going to make a light reflector that I can raise and lower but this will have to do for now.

Blow that fan across the girls and get them closer to the light. Your temps are fine. You're wasting some valuable grow light right there. The fan helps thicken the stalk up to.

Okay so my ambient temps were way too high like that and I already changed it and temps are good now. The PC fan is now an intake fan through the floor and I added a second fan pointing right at the seedlings. Good circulation now. I also added 2 Xbox games under them to raise it up to about 1" away from the lights. Hopefully this will prevent further stretching. When I transplant these mothers to their final pots I'll bury them a little deeper. Thanks for the help.

UPDATE: as of Monday my WWxBB and 1 of my afghani are 2 weeks old( the one in the middle back is 4 days behind them) and I think they look pretty healthy. I taped my cups with black gaff tape about a week ago right after I saw roots poking around near the edge of the container. And as a bonus, my cousin had to leave for work for 2 months and asked me to take his 5 seedlings they are super stretchy cause they were grown with sunlight through a bathroom window. In solo cups half full of dirt from outside. I topped them off with fox farm ocean forest and poked drain holes. Heres hoping I can manage all 8 plants, this is my first grow after all, but I love a challenge:bigjoint:image.jpg

A close up of my white widow x big bud. It's my healthiest looking girl. image.jpgimage.jpg
3 nodes in less than an inch... Will these stretch further apart or do they stay close once the next mode starts? I like how close together they are.

And greenhorn I don't have any experience with autos to know when they will start shooting up. I know the first few I started looked the same until like 2 days ago.. I guess they reached the sides of the container and started growing above ground. Good luck to you

They gone stretch. How much I couldn't tell you. All I can recommend is you give em plenty of light. Try not to overcrowd your flower space pre-flower. Sometimes you end up with to much bush and not enough light to go around.

I figured they would stretch some. And this is my mother/clone/ veg box originally intended to only house 2 mothers and whatever few clones I have vegging. I have a separate, larger flower cabinet that will take 4-6 small clones at a time ( still haven't chosen lighting for that one)
