I'm on a serious budget. Is there any reason a ph test kit meant for aquariums wouldn't work? If not, what's ya'lls recommendation for the best budget ph tester?

If its the strip kind for aquariums then they are notoriously inaccurate.
If its the liquid drops such as the API MASTER TEST KIT then these work based on colour change of the water being tested. But nutes colour the water some anyway.
Most aquarium pH kits only go as low as ph6 which isn't helpful for hydro grows.
A standard dropper pH kit for growing isn't very expensive £5/$8
Personally though nothing beats a well calibrated digital pH meter.
