ph up down phing water questions

looking for a rule of thumb sort of thing i only want 2 use a small container becuse ill only need 2 water it like once a week amd the nutes i use says it cant sit for more than 24 hours so dont want 2 make this big batch that ill only use a tiny bit of n stuff its a waste any thoughts peeps

lol sorry what i mean is 1st time i tried it i used a ten liter buket and i used like maybe around a teaspoon and it dropped from 7.5 2 like 4 so i guess im asking how 2 ph the water but really spelled out im having troubl wraping my head around it but ye if a teaspoons worth did that in a ten liter bucket i got no idea how 2 mix a small batch

I'm not sure whether it's the right way to do it. But, it's been working for me.

I've been using aquarium grade pH up and down. To get about 600ml of water from the garish pH 7.5 to a more useful 6.5. I use probably an eighth of a teaspoons worth of this pH down stuff.

In this pack, pH down is Sodium Biphosphate. And pH up is Sodium Bicarbonate.

I figured it neither kills fish. Or the plants they live with. Surely it wouldn't harm my cannabis... And it doesn't seemed to have. Since she's still alive and all.

That's part of how I test mine. Use that to fill the test container then add the indicator solution to get the reading. And adjust accordingly.

I use syringes as well with my liquid down ( sulfuric acid based ) , and a scale for my up ( granules ) .

The thing is that it changes depending on what I use to feed with , I have the dirty dozen from FF and bush doctor, and cal mag, kelp, hydrogarde.........

It's just what I do and it works fine for me. HTH

I use dry ph down, with tap water 150-200 ppm, nothing else added, ~1/8tsp of buffering powder drops it from ph of ~8.5 down to ~6.5. Total dissolved solids in the water you're starting with is of utmost importance in knowing how much to add. In reverse osmosis water or rain water a few granules can result in extremely acidic water. Ph is a measure of the ratio of hydrogen molecules to the rest of the dissolved solids.

i really appreciate all the help guys i hope i can be in a position 2 help use out oneday but ye fuck ph pens it 2 mutch mines fucked i think sponge in cap is moldy plus i needed 2 calibrate it so i dont trust it thinking of eather sticking with canna terra soil and using the advanced sensi ph perfect or just learning how 2 mix my own soil then all i gotta do is water it i dont know last grow i did i dident ph. the canna terra soil used boicanna nutes and it was the best iv done got paranoid so i pulled it tho owell live and learn peace

I run soilless now. Just buy a brick of coco coir and a bag of perlite, and mix it up. You can even do organic coco; just mix you're amendments with the coco/perlite. Plus it's a lot easier to reuse coco if you're just using liquid nutes, just remove the root mass and flush the salvaged coco and you're good to go.

ye been curios about coco im thinking what would be best for me is something very very simple

60-80% coco to 20-40% perlite depending on how often you want to water. some just use straight coco which is decent medium that can usually go a couple days without watering. But I don't mind watering daily (i use drip irrigation) so I mix a healthy amount of perlite in there to give the roots plenty of air to breathe.

Coco is amazing. It can be hand watered to achieve results better than soil, or irrigated hydoponically for hydroponic results. It's very forgiving, and buffers easily.

Using unamended coco will require a hydroponic nutrient solution no matter how you water it. Dyna gro is great and affordable. Many members on here swear by it, myself included.

mad so like if i got say the unamended coco can amend it with only ph buffering stuff or is it possable 2 do a super soil kind of thing so all i gotta do is water it

Super soil and soilless mixes (coco + perlite) operate differently.

Super soil is designed to feed your plants over an extended period of time. Typically nothing else would need to be added bar the usual water. And the odd feeding of the microherd. Which in turn helps to feed the plant.

Soilless mixes like coco coir + perlite need everything added to them. Usually every second or third watering is also a feed.

Soilless. Which is a form of hydro (correct me if I'm wrong), can yield you more weed and faster than soil.
But, soil is more forgiving on new growers.

Some people also prefer soil grown weed because it's supposed to taste better. Where as the soilless stuff is supposedly more potent. Though, I heard it can cause some people to have headaches. Unlike soil grown stuff.

I'm not sure how subcool's super soil would work with coco, it was designed to be added to regular potting soil. I'm sure it could be tweaked to work in a soilless grow, and yes @Nugachino it can be used as a hydro medium. But at the same time it's like soil in that it can be amended with things like kelp meal, guano, and alfalfa meal (to name a few). It's just easier for the roots to grow in coco, which is why subcool's super soil could run into problems. In his recipe only the bottom of the pots are lined with the super soil, in soil the plants slowly grow into it whereas with coco the roots could grow into it too quickly and burn like hell.

P.s. This is only a hypothesis, I've only tried super soil in potting mix.
