Ph Up/Down vs Lemon Juice and Calcium Hydroxide

What are the benefits of using an actual pH up/down product to adjust water/feed pH over lemon juice and a very dilute solution of CaOH? Are the pH up/down better at buffering the soil at X pH? Its my understanding that using calcium in this way may cause the soil pH to drift up over time, is this something pH up avoids? Are there any pitfalls to using lemon/lime juice or citric acid (I have a fair bit left over from making cheese) or vinegar?

Ph up and down will kill your microorganisms and lemon juice won't from my understanding. I'm also a complete newb so someone else should probably chime in

Phosphoric acid ph down keeps the ph more stable than citric acid, vinegar, or lemon juice. I use citric acid and like it but I wouldn't use it in a reservoir that was going to sit around for a while. I mix it up and use it in coco. There is zero evidence that PH up or down of any type kills microorganisms, that is one of those things that people hear and then repeat over and over. High phosphorus levels will suppress your microbiome to some extent, but in the amount used during bloom phase with chemical fertilizers, I highly doubt the amount in PH down will do it. I would suggest silica as a ph up, if you need it. I never use ph up, but I use silica, then need to use more ph down to compensate. You should also check out a good fulvic acid supplement like Bioag Ful Power, I generally don't need any PH down for most of my grow when I use this stuff. Usually just in the beginning before I start pushing my nutes.
