pick n mix, single seed, and strain advise!

So I will be starting a new grow op in a new location in the near future. I plan on using 2 400-600 watt lights, or one 1000 watt,and a stealth hydroponic's system in a 4 ft by 4ft by 6ft tall area. as well as CO2 enrichment.

I am interested in growing white widdow or AK 47 - but have no experience with either. on that note, I would like to try to grow multiple easy to grow strains with low odor during flowering. basically i would like to find a single seed site or a pick n mix site that would allow me to find various strains that would provide prolific trichome and resin production with low to moderate odor, or something that can be controlled with a carbon scrubber. If you have experience ordering from a single seed or pick n mix site, i would love to hear your review and reccomendations.

I would also like to hear from anyone that has experience growing medicinal grade strains, that would be forgiving to the first/second time grower that will be going through nutrients for marijuana 101 during this process. If you have any advise on a strain and nutrient regimen that would gaurantee my success on this grow op, i would highly value your advise.

try attiitude seeds they have a pick n mix section. id recomend the kushberry from dna or something from barneys.

I use to use a 1000W HPS and 250W UVB side lighting. I switched to a 600W HPS and Light Rail (no side lighting) and I get better bud, faster harvest, bigger yield, reduces heat stress, reduces electrical costs, etc, etc. Subcool (experienced breeder) uses only 6 hours of light when he grows (6 light / 18 dark), the light mover does a bit different and I think works better. I use 25W/'2 for flower - 600W over 8'x3'. Go for the bigger motor in the 5.0 if you can afford the extra $100.

AK47 is one of the worst smelling strains during flower. White Widow isn't great but nothing like AK47.

Like Jeb said, Attitude is a great seed bank but a relatively small single seed selection (world wide delivery). Pick n Mix has a huge selection but does not deliver to the US. If you are in the US we can suggest another Pick n Mix style seed bank.

What illnesses (symptoms) will you be treating? I can give you a few different strain optons for specific illnesses if you can give some more detail. Once you decide on your strain you can look into nutrients. I use the simple one part Fox Farm solubles and get fantastic results.

Look through Subcool's strains (TGA), he has good effect descriptions and you may get a good idea of what you need.

Hobbes, thanks for the detailed post, I really appreciate the time you spent putting that together for me. So to answer some questions and maybe pose some more, here goes:

That light rail seems a little large for my area, But I do like the idea. I will look into those options, I might also consider getting one 600 watt light to start and adding another if need'd. I'm not sure i know what you were using for the side lighting But I have considered using some floresent T5's or the like to supplement my lighting. I have also been pondering doing the entire setup in a tent for environment control, with one vented HPS, and CO2 enrichment. I would be using side lighting if i were using the tent for sure. (i think)

I am in the US. and i would like to check out all the options for seed banks that sell single seeds. My intentions are to try several different strains to see what grows best for me and fits my needs with out spending alot on one strain for 10 seeds or what have you.

I assume you mean ak47 has alot of odor? is the white widdow's odor controllable? - I would just love to grow that classic strain i've heard great things~ I think i've read that greenhouse is the originator of that strain, and would most likly order from them to get it. I am only interested in growing reputable tried and true strains that will let me get the feel for growing indoors and be successful. Once i've got the feel for it and learned from my mistakes I would be interested in growing more advanced/rare strains.

Nothing serious honestly, something that would address Pain ( extensive reconstructive joint and bone replacement ), Nausea , insomnia, anxiety, depression, and something that doesnt promote anti-social behavior. I understand no single strain will adress all issues, but I would be willing to try anything.

Also most importantly I'd like to grow something that is just a pleasure to smoke, and doesn't allow you to build up a tolerance.

Edit: I thought I would mention that california orange kush and green crack are two strains that i found really enjoyable. unfortunately i'll never know what breeder the orange kush came from, and i'll never get ahold of GC clone or seed :\

I found that AK47 smells like dead skunk but white widow wasn't much worse for me than any other strain.

The original breeder was Howard Marks. He split from Greenhouse and renamed the original creation Black Widow, to differentiate it from all the knock offs, including greenhouse's. He breeds under the name Mr Nice (after a friend) but he doesn't sell feminized seeds. His beans can be purchased at most of the larger seed banks, including single seeds.

Medicine Man by Mr Nice (White Rhino by Greenhouse is a good knockoff).

Dr VonDank's Godzilla is by all account's I've read a head tearer off of kind of strain (Doc is a forum member, I'll post a link to his Godzill thread below).

Endless Sky by Dr Greenthumb is a super potent indica that produces well and flowers in 6 weeks.

Cotton Candy by Federation is recomended by forum member frmrboi, I don't know how potent it will be but it'll be a non-drowsy strain if you need pain relief through the day.

BOG's Lifesaver is his flagship pain relief strain, his beans are hard to find and usually only show up at dispensaries or in auctions. For a short time you can get them at Seed Boutique, until they sell out of this batch.

Kali Mist by Serious Seeds is said to be great for menstral cramps. My favorite strain, cuts through moods, up-opiate euphoric bliss.

White Russian by Serious is a potent head stone, long lasting.

Blue Moonshine by DJ Short is a narcotic blueberry body stone, the White Widow of the Blue Family.

A strong sativa like Super Silver Haze by Mr Nice is suppose to be good for pain.

Subcool (TGA) and HHF (Breeder's Choice) are two breeders who specialize in strains that help medical patients, reading through their lineup might give you a strain you like. Chernobyl is one of Subcool's pain relief strains - Trainwreck and JTR are two of the three parents, good for pain relief and muscle tremors (worth a close look). HHF has several great pain relief strains - Seraph will help with insomnia as well.

There are a ton of other strains that will help, these are just the one's I'm familiar with and can pull from the top of my head.

Depending on the type, duration and intensity of the depression some strains can start to lift you out in seconds. Other strains may leave some of the depression but give you a split mind where your intellect can examine the depression and the emotional pain without being effected itself. This can take some time if you're not already practicing this, it's a good way to remain relatively functional even during the worst of depressions.

Bubblegum - Serious Seeds: crystal clear euphoric high. Very potent but functional and clear. Tastes like pink bubblegum and icing sugar. A treat, I know it works because I go through it quick. (stimulating)

Kali Mist - Serious Seeds: an up-opiate; nothing is wrong; bliss; cuts through moods and other highs/stones; spice; my favorite strain (my pheno takes 18 weeks, some take 10 but will have different effects) (neither sedative nor stimulating, but you must overcome Bliss to move)

** Kali Mist is like being in the Nexus. From Star Trek the next generation movie where Kirk comes back to fight Sorun. Everything is so perfect you never want to leave, and if you're bending under the weight of clinical depression you'll do anything to get back.

The closest effect I can compare it to is the opiate stone from Percocet, except it's an up-opiate and there's no withdrawl. To cap it off you don't chase the dragon, you ride it. 2 years and the high just keeps getting better and better as I learn to grow and cure better.

I Can't recommend Kali Mist high enough but considering the long flowering period you may be better off starting with two shorter flowering strains and add Kali Mist as a third or later strain, once you have bud on hand.

AK47 - Serious Seeds: soaring high, rocket fuel, non functional. Smells like dead skunk during flower, needs odor control. Will lift spirits almost immediately but the power of the soaring high may cause anxiety if you're not use to it. (stimulating)

Jilly Bean - MzJill (Subcool & TGA): like jeb said, this one is great. High type-Happy, mood enhancing, humorous, energetic; Smells like orange skunk or tang/ Taste so much like Dreamcicles you will not believe it.; Extremely up beat and happy buzz great for depression and bad days. (stimulating)

Pandora's Box - Subcool (TGA): the Cheshire Cat strain; High type- Zooming, Happy, Grinning, anti depressant BIGTIME!;smells: It taste like NL5 to me but its very industrial with a slight citrus taste and a undertone of spice and hash One female has been named Cherry Lethal lemonade. (stimulating)

The Flav - Subcool (TGA): strong narcotic stone for when you have to check out; mangos. (sedative to the point of narcotic)

Querkle - Subcool (TGA): grape; high type- Indica head and grape taste make it total all day headstash.; smells: grapes, fruit, berries, musty; one of my favorite things to smoke out of a clean bong the flavor is just amazing and IMO better than Mom. (sedative)

Strawberry Cough - (Dutch Passion or preferably a clone from a dispensary): the best anxiety melting strain I've grown. The pheno I had was weak and tasted bad, but melted anxiety like steaming water on butter. I'm growing 4 more from seed to look for a good mother. People review it as a very potent high when you get a good pheno. (stimulating)

Flo - DJ Short: tastes like musky grapes; unique motivating high; my pheno is a very small producer but finishes right on 8 weeks - chopped yesterday at 55 days this run. If you need to get things done while being happy this is the strain. Small producer (uniquely motivating, a must have if you have trouble with motivation during depression)

Big Bang - Greenhouse: a mild sedative stone, sold in Dutch pharmacies for anxiety. (sedative)

Very true, and survey lists don't rate the strains by effectiveness so it takes some experimenting.

Kali Mist - Serious Seeds.

My favorite strain, I described it a bit above. It's a strain you just crave, it disapears before all of my other strains. Regular seeds only and a long flower time. Worth the effort and wait.
