This particular project came as a continuation of my previous project where I had two phenotypes I wanted to pertetuate. Two sativas, a Greatful Casey and a Heavy Duty Fruity.
The GC was cloned via air layering. After harvesting the mother I left three buds and switched back to 18/6. By the time the buds had rooted I also had new leafs coming out of the buds. If you have never done this, let me tell you is kind of miraculous.
The HDF was harvested and a few buds were left in the plant and just switched back to 18/6.
Here are a few pics that document the process.
As you can see in this pic, the clone is re vegging while being air layered too. It does not look as good as I nut burned it at the beggening. Later on when transplanted is when I decided to go 100% organic.
Air layering after the mother was harvested:
A fully rooted clone still attached to the mother and vegetating:
Here is a few pics of the clones after being transplanted into one liter containers:
And this is the HDF re vegging in the same container she grew from seed and after 4 weeks of re vegging:
Please notice the single bladed leafs in this pic. With both techniques, air layering a flowered clone and re vegging the first leafs are single bladed:
In this phase all plants were transplanted into Roots Organics Soils and then a few weeks after re transplanted into two gallon pots in which moment they started receiving top dressing of worm castings every week as their only feed source, along with the original contents of the soil.
They were kept indoors with a mix of an 90 watts LED and 4, 85 watt CFL until they were about 5 or 6 nodes tall, I am sorry but I do not have pics of this phase, and then taken outdoors for flowering to a friends house.
After two weeks in 12/12 they gained a lot of height but no signs of flowering and then I could not see my babies for a full month. All this time they had been kept with just water and one application of banana peels tea. Two days ago I went to see my ladies (already 6 weeks into flowering) and this is what I found:
The small one is the HDF, she kept a small profile even though she was re vegged in a larger pot than she grew up from seed. In case you wonder, the largest bud site is around 2 feet tall in the first pic and these are all sativas which means they can take another 2 months of flowering.
At this point I will continue to feed them with banana peel tea and continue to top dress the soil with worm castings. The only time these plants were fed with chemical nutes was when they were still attached to their moms.
Now, since they are outdoors and the raining season is already here (I was lucky two days ago when these pics were taken) I am worried about possible mold or fungus in the flowers. Any suggestions as to an organic preventive measure I could take?
Will the rain affect the crystals forming in the flowers? Someone told me the rain hitting the crystals can wash them away, keep in mind I have never grown outdoors.
Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks,
BB.
