deepening trough of low pressure offshore causes the frontal system to stall over the
South Coast. Eventually, moist, tropical air is picked up by the upper winds from near
the tropics and carried northeastward onto the BC coast. The result is extremely
heavy precipitation events where local rainfall amounts of 100 millimetres or more
