Pinkie pie under new Area 51 LEDs

So I promised a friend that I would do a journal and the actual journal logs are confusing so I'm posting it here. I'm not an ace grower like some of you but I do my best, constructive criticism is always welcome but don't belittle me please. If anybody has any questions feel free to ask. I'm growing in a 32 x 32 five foot tent, my growing medium is soil in 5 gal fabric smart pots, the soil itself is fox farm ocean forest with a thin layer of happy frog on top so I don't burn the seedlings. My light schedule will be 18/6 start to finish because these are auto flowers. My nutes will most likely be the fox farm line but I'm open to suggestions.

I think you're going to have a problem. Ocean Forest is really really hot and it's going to grow into that rather quickly. My experience has kept my seedlings in Happy frog until the final transplant, where I line the bottom 30% with OF/my own supersoil and the rest Happy Frog. You might be shooting yourself in the foot out of the gate.

From what the breeder said this particular cross of pinkie pie is a pretty heavy feeder so I'm hoping that isn't the case. Also since this is an auto there won't be any transplanting, they are just in the 5 gal pots forever lol. So far so good, we have nice uniform growth with no signs of burn. Thanks for the concern and reply though, I'll be monitoring for any sign of trouble

Ah, an Auto. I'm not sure how those feed. Still, I'd believe that maybe the bottom 30-50% would be the OF. You're going to be into that OF before they even really start to take hold if you only did a small top layer. But then again, that could all be irrelevant to an auto. I've never grown one (Not a fan, personally). If you do run into trouble, there won't be much that you can do, sadly. As I've been learning, in organics, by the time you see something start to show, and by the time you're able to hit it with anything, you've already lost a lot of potential (my cal/mag problem :x )

Autos grow really quickly, around 1/3 to 1/4 of the pot is happy frog so I'm hoping the roots get to the ocean forest at just the right time. Autos only veg for 2-3 weeks on average so I hope I planned correctly. I'm guessing you are under LEDs as well? My last run also had a cal/mag deficiency. I think it's a common problem under LEDs but still I feel your pain. The last bitch just couldn't get enough, I was giving her some every time I watered her lol

Correct, I am LED as well. Apparently it's a common thing, which I guess isn't too surprising considered the focused spectrum. I was doing a bit of research on what I'm growing, and where I thought it was a solid 8 week flower, I'm now finding that she won't hate me if I let her go another week or so. The trichs will tell the story, I'm just waiting for her to start putting on weight.

@HockeyBeard brings up a valid point but I think they should be able to handle the ocean forest, never used it myself but Ive given these guys nutes as early as 1 week with no ill effects so I think they can take it.

maybe do 1 pot with a 5-6 inch deep by 4 inch wide area of happy frog to see how it performs comparatively? might help you out in future grows too :)

Update time. So they seem to be doing pretty well I think. Temps have been stupidly high this time of year but they are steadily chugging right along. How do you think the biggest one is doing for about 17 days old? I can literally see growth daily under these a51 LEDs but we will see how they flower. Overall I'm fairly pleased so far though. Btw there's about a week of growth difference between each size of plant. Strange how that worked out lol

So I can see the biggest literally grow daily. It's doing well for 20 days I'd say. Opinions welcome though. The three together are doing pretty decent for being 2 weeks behind the biggest I think. The plant in the middle seems to be growing strangely but it seemed weak as a seedling also. The other one that's alone is growing daily but seems to have a completely different structure than the biggest. Cross your fingers they are all ladies regardless lol

It's really hard to keep them that low ATM because I don't have an exhaust fan. Ordering one very soon though. It has been unseasonably warm lately as well and that makes it even harder. I'm doing what I can right now though. My tent is open and I have a regular fan blowing

The male was dealt with, on to the good news though. All the plants remaining are females. Not only that but the one by herself is getting super bushy like she was topped. I think she will be a monster for an auto when it's all said and done. All in all I think the way that I layered the soil was a success.

Update time. The 2 white widow crosses are starting to flower and a bit taller than the think different cross, but the think different cross is just a massive bush. Seriously looks like it should be part of somebody's hedge lol. By far these are the best auto genetics I've had the pleasure of growing. Big thank you and a big shout out to the buddy that gave them to me. Had a lil ph issue with the td but I'm getting it sorted out and the ww was telling me she needed some more nutes so I've been feeding well. Just don't wanna burn them bc we all know how sensitive autos are lol

Time for a little update, so the pp x td started to flower as well and the pp x ww is getting tall. Ive got my lights nearly as tall as they go for the ww so I hope it stops soon. I've been giving cal/mag + fox farms big bloom every other watering and they seem to be responding well to it. What y'all think?
