Whipped BHO

I think most people know I am a huge fan or water hash or Bubble Hash as it's known among growers and smokers. I was always reluctant to smoke anything made using butane and even made a pretty big stick about why people shouldn't use it. As Jeff says in the Big Lebowski " New shit has come to light man!" The BHO I was familiar with wasn't made from purified butane now was it heated or whipped in order to make sure all the butane was evaporated rapidly. The old stuff was hard to work with and messy unlike this form that is called "Budder" or "Wax". If made correctly using the right strain it's very hard to distinguish from Hash critically extracted with CO2 and I suspect that most Wax I see in the clubs is made like this. Before I get started I need to pass on some information I have gathered while researching this article. They now make custom extractors that reclaim the butane gas and are much more friendly to the planet. Pig Farmer has ordered a vacuum purging unit this is an additional step to insure quality. Many veteran BHO makers prefer not to whip this mix believing it breaks down the trichomes and reduces the overall flavor but we tried making it both ways and personally I prefer the Wax over amber oil. I called Steep Hill to see if there testing yet for nitrates or any residuals in BHO wax but at this time they are not. I will p
It goes without saying that if you don't use common since when making BHO and working with liquid butane you can go BOOM! Do Not Release Butane Gas Indoors! All it takes is a static spark or a slip in concentration even outdoors and it can be a very bad day so that's my warning. Humans as a species are not all that bright so this is your heads up!

We discovered during this project that TGA strains produce record amounts of end product in the 25% range for returns. I thought I should let all you extract makers see the numbers. A 2.5 ounce tube of Chemdawg yielded 6 grams, Vortex was 10 grams, Jillybean was 12 Grams and Apollo-13 was a staggering 16 grams from 2.5 ounces of shake. Pig Farmer was impressed to say the least and couldn't believe the quality and colors we got.

I showed up to Pigs with my jars of collected shake all excited but after inspecting the weed I brought over he did not feel it was dry enough so we placed it into pans and into his drying room. We than made a run using the Vortex shake he had saved up from his 15 ounce plant. What we produced on day one is featured in the first shots and yes Pigs was nice enough to share. I returned a few days later once my shake was nice and dry and we completed making the video and I took more shots so your actually seeing two days of work in these photo's.
Pigs uses only 5x filtered butane and his specialty glass tube when making his Pigwax. These are custom made and when I asked Pigs how to get a hold of one he tells me that glass blowers are reluctant to make them out of concern people will do something stupid and go boom. He may offer them on his website Borofarm.com after it opens on 420 but no promises. All the bowls are Pyrex to withstand the drastic temperature differences. And a thick rubber glove is used to prevent any spark and to protect from frostbite. His tubes hold like 75 grams of dry shake and he tells me it's very important to clean the flange really well with alcohol so you get a really good seal. Through this amount of weed he is running 2 cans through and as I found out there is equipment out there that can recycle this gas and make the process safer. The environment not withstanding that is 9$ worth or butane to make 10-16 grams of Wax a pretty good investment.

Before starting the process outside we put 2 pots of water on the stove to boil, once the injection stage is complete a Pyrex pan is filled with boiling hot water and the Pyrex bowls full of liquid butane are carefully lowered into the water. Within seconds the gas starts boiling off and the water temp starts dropping as soon as the off gassing slows down the water is replaced with the other pan of boiling water. As most of the butane evaporates the remaining liquid will start to thicken up like syrup at first then like caramel. This is when you start whipping the hot gooey liquid slowly using a glass rod, this emulsifies the product somewhat and changes the way it looks. The large pan is then placed on top of a pot of boiling water and the dishes places back inside and the whipping is continued until all the visible moisture is gone and the wax starts to crumble into powdery lumps of yellow hash. This process takes around 20 minutes and even though the water is boiling and steam is rising the actual temperature of the bowls never exceeds 180 degrees.
I took mine home and spread it out on wax paper and left it in a warm dry room for a few days this is the point where I would like to see some vacuum purging but the end product is already amazing. The Jillybean Wax smelled like orange jellybeans and the Apollo-13 smelled just like the flowers smell. Cheese Wax has a distinct smell and flavor and melts like butter. ChemDawg Wax smells like a greasy rag that a filling station attendant might carry and will shut your eyes it's so potent when made using these techniques. I hope the industry continues to develop and that testing for residuals becomes more available. I would also like to see finished products indicate how it was made because patients might not understand that Wax or Budder is extracted with butane.

I prefer to smoke tiny amounts on a double titanium screen in my small glass pipe others place a dab on a small pile of weed and smoke it as a topping. I like a product called a Healthstone that is a glass bowl with a disk of carbon that gets read hot but puts of no fumes. One of the more elaborate ways of smoking the Pigwax is off a Titanium plate that's attached to a swing arm on a standing bubbler. The plate is per heated with a butane torch and swung into position. A glass dauber is used to place a small amount directly on the plate. A upside down flared bowl I like to call a snorkel bowl catches the swirling smoke and is then filtered by water. To me it's a lot to go through for a hit but it is one hell of a hit!
So that's it, everything I have learned recently about BHO and lots of pictures you can check out the video we made on You Tube:

i like being able to watch a video, then have another writeup of what actually happened. im hard headed i guess, so it takes alot to sink in.

I must have not stirred the oil for long enough? i always end up with a gooey product that just melts back into a blob. Iv even re heated the stuff a couple days later and continued stirring but it still just stays gooey at its firmest. Im thinkin it had to be because the herb used was just oiley more then others. I cant wait to make some tga strain wax!

thanks sub

Beats the shit outta my old BHO extractor. But my oil is still pretty damn kick ass!
Where di I get those tubes? Im down for a new one. I also need some bubble bags. Shit Ive got to have 3 or 4 gallon bags of sugar leaf needing to be processed. I like to make what I call evening brownies. I only do em in the evening because I end up asleep in my chair everytime....hehe

Speak of the devil. I was just thinking yesterday; "man everyone seems to really be on this BHO kick bigtime, maybe I should try making a run". I even had the thought that you never seemed to be a fan of it at all. I've always followed your bubble hash threads, but I still prefer a good dry sieve myself. I'm going to have to give this BHO/wax thing a go, it all just looks too tasty. Plus it's easier to carry with you when you have to go through airports.

lol i use this method as well and i whip for 4 hours- 6 hours almost my hand is red after that but its SOOOOOOO worth it i suggest sub you try this method with JTR the smell / taste / quality of the end product is so supurb it annihilates my tolerance to regular bud

hey sub,

just did my first extraction with trim from some Agent orange and mr magoos white majic. (ao is magnificent btw)

my question is how do you get it from a sticky taffy like substance to a handable wax?
i used 2 oz /3 cans in glass tubes of trim and got about 1.5g whipped/heated for about an hour.
also what do you do with the trim after?..is it worth putting it through my next bubble run, or just cook with it in my next butter batch?

did you guys decarboxylate the end product to get the waxes out? that is unless he made sure that the product going in the tubes was super dry. maybe even put it in a warm oven before running it through. also, what is the diameter on the glass tube he is using? anything over 1" and you are diminishing yields.

Pigfarmers looks like 1 3/4 - 2 inch OD tubing.

i made mine out of 1 1/4" OD tubing which has a 1" ID. it was tough getting the green in and out. and kinda left a resin film on the inside of the glass, which i am going to boil off when i make butter with the leftovers and leaf from this harvest.

i made 3 tubes so that i was able to do all 2 oz at once without have to empty and repack one tube.

i put it back on the stove and whipped it for about another half hour. i got a very sticky taffy like stubstance. not very waxy. but it is super potent.

i really didnt like working with it as much as bubble. if you freeze it it gets really brittle, but softens up quickly.
going to get a few more cans and try it on some leftover outdoor bottoms and see if i get a better yield.

2 oz and you only got 1.5? something is not right

every 1/2 inch x 2 foot (22g of material) i get close to 1.5 / 2.5 depending on the strain i use

either i packed it too tight, or it was because it was trim and not bud. and it could have been closer to 1oz, now that i look at it. didnt weigh it out.

1 ounce seems more on mate and the harder you pack it the better it is i reem my tube so tight its unable be de reamed unless you do the extraction

the tube it self can get under a serious amount of pressure but if you know whats your doing it shouldnt be a problem

Just wondering whats everyones stance on griding the buds before packing the tube? I've heard from a friend that he swears by grinding the shit out of it, I'm not to keen on the idea, I figure your just losing more in the process of grinding than you would gain in the end. BTW he talking about like magic bullet grinding which I thinks is crazy, I could see loosely grinding but he says powder that shit. My first run in my glass tube has been keeping me perpetually stoned for days now. THANKS SUB cant wait for my 3D's to be ready
