I'm as solid atheist as one can be. But let's look at some facts. The near Middle East, at the dawn of the 20th century, had an average of 20 to 25% Christian population.

After centuries of periodic waves of violent persecution, and constant oppression as second class citizens who were taxed at higher rates, the Christians of the near middle East have all fled.

Mosul used to be known as a Christian city, even recently. It had a very large Christian population for that region. Its all gone now.

What Israel is, is a nation in that region that, on the whole, respects human rights. That can be a controversial statement because of some security measures Israiel takes, but being surrounded by countries that have tried to invade and destroy you multiple times will do that to you. All that notwithstanding, no matter your religion, if you live in Israiel and want to live your life and let others do the same you will be dealt with fairly. That is something that can't be said for other countries in the area.
