Plant has Looked the Same for 2 Days, Is This Normal?

I finally got one of my seeds to grow. I planted it directly into the soil without germinating it first and watered it. Then 2 days ago I saw the seed poking through the soil. Now 2 days later it looks exactly the same. Shouldn't it have grown more in 2 days? I haven't been overwatering it. I watered it once when I planted it and then today it was dry and light so i watered it a little more. I just want to make sure it's ok.

You should cover the seed with .5 inches of moist soil. The seed first cracks a little, then a single root tip comes out, then the shell softens as the seed is pushed up out of the ground. Then the shell breaks off, partly due to pushing through the soil, and partly due to the seed leaves (cotyledons) swell up inside and bust it open.
You may have stalled this one. Just cover it with moist soil and wait a few days.

This is not uncommon. Soaking overnight helps soften a seed before planting.

I have been doing this for 18 years and just got some seeds from amsterdam last week. 5 of 5super lemon haze seeds popped quickly with no probs. only 2 of 5 tangerin dream seeds popped up.. They needed help because the seeds were so big and fresh.. the shell was hard to crack. I had to really super carefully help the shells bust open.. This is farther along than your seed, tho. Two of the tangerine dreams cracked open to have a root tip and then couldn't squeeze the seed open any more and got fucked up. One didn't open.
point is, I have done it a lot and things go wrong still.

Good luck and happy growing.

Best Advice ever. Always a fun process what we do :)

Thanks I will cover it with some more soil. I had planted it about 1/4 inch down when I first put the seed in the soil. Should I be planting them deeper? I have 2 more that I'm waiting on to sprout so should I put more soil on them too? I had the cup filled to the top when I put the seed in and then I watered it and it compacted the soil down and the other 2 are the same way.

yeah, they should be about a half inch after being watered-in. they don't drink until later, so not much need to water after the initial watering...

Looks like it washed up when you watered it. Keep it buried and moist not soaking wet but you seem to understand that concept already :-)
It does help to soak them in a glass in a warm spot for 24 hrs before putting them in soil. Some seeds naturally have a harder than normal outer shell that makes it tough for it to even start soaking water, on seeds like this i put them in a small vile with 200 grit sand paper lined on the inside and shake for 30 seconds but not too hard, just enough to "scuff" the outer layer a little so water can penetrate easier. Iv had 100% germ rates using this method on hard to pop beans.

When you start some seeds always start more than you need. Some wont even germ and roughly 50% of the survivors turn out to be male...
just my 2 c.

So I covered it in more dirt and it still hasn't grown anymore. It's been 5 days since I posted this which means it's been 7 days since I put it in the dirt. Should I give it up for dead? One of the other ones sprouted out of the dirt but this one hasn't.
