plant sex questions

Ok I'm strongly considering growing soon but I have some really basic noob questions first:

Ok I always thought that male plants grew buds and everything just like females only not as much and not as potent but i recently heard they don;t at all...is this true? if that is the case when ig row im def. going to buy feminized seeds because i will only be growing a couple plants at a time and i would hate to waste my time on a couple of plants if theyre both going to be males...are feminized seeds alot more expensive?

I also don't understand how the plant can be a hermaphrodite..is this a bad thing? how does that occur and if it's bad how do you prevent it? Also suppose someone was to grow a male plant even supposing it dosn't grow buds does it still produce more seeds and if so does that necessarily mean all of those will be male?

sorry for the noob questions..any answers r appreciated :hump:
