Plant update

Since we last left our Hero, he had overwatered his plants and the bottoms were turning yellow!

PLANT UPDATE: Week 6 (or...7)

Okay, so I haven't added much water if any to the soil. I have added some water to the upper leaves via my spray fertilizer, just to keep up the 3-4 day schedule. Two of the pots were actually dry at the 3" depth so I added about a a half cup of water to each (enough? Too much?)

The runt, Walter, is coming along slowly but surely. Two of the plants (Steve and Bob) are launching new leaves and Kevin (my current leader) has just put out his first set of 5-leaf leaves! What does this indicate? They are still a little yellow on some leaves all of them. Some of the leaves started to turn brown so I cut the tiny ones off near the bottom.

Soil: Fairly dry to about 1-2" down. Some are still quite damp beneath that.
Roots: Of questionable health entirely! The soil won't dry out fast enough!
Leaves: There is still good new growth up top even if the bottom leaves are still suffering.
Trunk: The main trunk of the plants are starting to harden up (wind working?)
Stems: Is purple bad? Why are some stems turning purple?

Are you still vegging? What kind of light schedule is in your sig? Are you using that?

You are using Miracle Gro, did you add perlite to the mix to improve drainage?

Have you transplanted your plant recently? If so, did you transplant it into more of the same soil or different soil.

How tall are your plants? Are they bush or tall and lanky? The leaves that are yellowing, are they in the shade or in the light?

Purple stems can be a sign of a deficiency, or it can be a genetic trait in the plant.

Yeah despite their age they are very small plants with only about 4-5 sets of leaves so far. Tallest plant (Kevin) is 8" tall. The rest are 4-6" and the runt (Walter) is only about 2" but he is about 2 weeks old (the original plant in his pot died so I just put a seed in and let nature take its course).

I did not add perlite to the mix. Based on what I'm reading I should repot with new soil and perlite. How much perlite to soil ratio?

What brand/type of soil should I buy? Keep in mind my options are Home Depot, Wal-Mart or other big box-type stores.

The light rate is 18/6 but with an hour of light in the middle. I read it increases feminization.

Here is a soil recipe from BlazeOneUp, who is an extremely talented grower. You can find everything you need for this at Home Depot.

The soil mix consist of 1 bag of mriacle grow organic + 1 bag of pro mix + 1 cup blood meal + 1 cup bone meal + 1/2 cup dolimite lime + 10-20% added chunky perlite. Im running 3 gallon bags btw this mix will fill 10 3 gallon bags.Im running a few strains mostly chronic, But i have a couple URKLE and NYCD in there as well.

Clones were rooted in rapid rooters, Then transplanted to 16 oz styrofoam cups with plain jane pro mix, After they rooted the cups they were transplanted into the 3 gallon bags with the soil mix from above. When I run this soil mix I use plain water from day 1 all the way thru harvest.
Personally I wouldn't worry about trying to increase the female ratio. I find many of the claims dubious and they are certainly hard to prove.

For better luck you should change your names to females too. Unless you know a lot of female Kevins and Walters. ;)

I will head over tomorrow and see if I can't pick some/most of that up and try to find the rest of the stuff. If I start asking for all this are they gonna be like "Chroniiiiiic"

Yeah I have no idea why I gave them female names. I suppose once they're sexed I can rename.

Here are my "boys":
