Please help lighting question.

I have a chord that can hook into a lightbulb but sais it should only take a 40 watt bulb, I was wondering if I put a splitter on the end that can take 650 watts of power, could I put more then the 40 watts since the splitter holds 650 or would I have to get a stronger cord?

Thanks for the help:)

Hmm.. what are you talking about, just a 2-prong extension cord for 650 W of what? a light or something, i'd say if you are using a cord rated at 40W I would never overload that, it could melt/cause a fire. And what is this splitter? Either way if you are running 650W of power through a 40W cable, that's no good, anywho thats my 2cents be careful!
edit: if anything i'd get a 3-prong grounded cable rated at your specific wattage for like 7-10$ or so.

Yea, you're better off to do like cansiban said and buy a cheap little extension cord and hook that up to your splitter (you mean one of those y-splitters right with the two sockets?). You don't want a fire in your house and especially don't want one if you have illegal plants in your house.

alright thanks for the input, I was figuring that it would overload, but wasnt sure if the splitter would take the two lights power instead of the main cord, so now im off to get what I must get..

P.S The plant sprouted on christmas:) One damn good present..
