Hello everybody.... my name is..... and I have recently killed 4, maybe 7 beautiful seeds....

I had the seeds in a kleenex soaked with water and out of the sunlight.. in a moderately warm area in my room. The seeds popped... but the kleenex had basically disintegrated.... I also did a couple in a papertowel a couple days after, they popped too... now onto my problem..

I think I moved the seeds to soil too early...

How long should the taproot be before you can confidently transport the seeds from papertowel to soil?

I HAVE done it before, but for some reason now, I am having no luck.....

Too hot?

Too cold?

Light or no Light? 24hrs a day?

Would moving to a pete puck (i use for clones) still work for seeds? I am grasping at straws now, but I thought that it may be too dense to allow the seed to make its way through the soil....

Please post your best method to germinating seeds... I am sick to my stomach thinking I just killed 4-7 killer strains due to my incompetence....lol

Thanks in advance... Cheers!...

I get a shot class/ cup, fill this with mineral water and pop the seeds in, the seeds will float at this point, put the cup in a warm dark place for 24 hours, check to see if seed has fallen to the bottom of the cup and if it has not swirl the water around a little and that sometimes helps.
Now you want to keep it in the dark place checking ever 24-36 hours to see if the seed has started to crack a little and show roots/shoot.

This has worked on all my grows and not once let me down. it maybe a slow method but it works, unsure of any faster methods and i really would not want to waste a seed trying.

24-36 hours to see if the seed has started to crack a little and show roots/shoot.
I am planning on planting them in soil, so in your experience, once the taproot is out of the seed a little bit.. it is ready to go in soil? obviously just a little cup of soil, and planting the seed under a little bit of dirt... Do you keep it rather moist at this time or do you keep it approx the same as a regular plant?

And when you put the seeds into the light, 24hrs a day? like clones?

same temps as the regular plants or do they prefer hotter temps?

Thanks again everybody....

Use a paper cup. O yes keep it moist and warm....warmth is very important ..bro .i kept my seedlings cold for a week and they did nothing. I placed them on a heater and wala the next day i had sprouts... Keep the temps.. Constant @ 68-80 degrees best at 75 i think...

I soak em for 24 hrs then into a wet paper towel in the dark till taproots around 1/8 to 1/4 inch then put into a rapid rooter taproot pointing down.

Of course you can put it in soil how do u think plants grow naturally lol.

Only put it about 2 or 3 seedlengths deep in soil tho

And once they sprout 24 hours of light under flourescants till they're ready to go under the halide on 18/6

If your havin a hard time germinating just put straight in soil ungerminated. I only germinate so I don't waste time planting dead seeds

I soak my seeds for 24 hours in a shot glass of water. At the same time, I soak my rockwool in ph'd water with 1 tsp of clonex for about 2 1/2 cups of water. After 24 hours, swirl cup if seeds haven't sunk to the bottom yet. If the seeds sink, I squeeze the excess water out of the rockwool cubes and put them in a germination tray on top of a seedling heat mat. In go the seeds, on goes the dome and 24-72 hours later you have seedlings. Simple and easy.

I use a match case with a small piece of sandpaper in it. I shake the seeds inside to scuf them up a bit. Then I drop them in water with a ph of 6.5-6.8 and store them near my light with a cover on so that they are between 25-30 celcius. Colder for indica, warmer for sativa. I've had sativa seeds not sprout until they were at 32! Once you see a little rootlet poking out, make a hole in your soil 5mm or so, and place the seed carefully in, root pointing down. Water it in keep it warm. DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT! Plants like companionship, not worry. Never fret, I swear they can tell.

I've been having a 100% succes rate with peat moss pellets.
Just soak them with pHed water and place the seed about 1/4 inch below soil.
Takes anywhere from 24 to 72 hours...depending on the strain.
Hope this helps!!
Good luck!

i hate the cup method, i use moist paper towel inside a plastic bag, in a dark cool place....2 days complete, 99.8% germ rate

So once the seed(s) has popped, it is put in a cup or small pot under 5ml of soil...

Now this is where I may have screwed up on the previous ones.... how many hours of light? 24? 20? 18?

Please reply with your best proven method... I really f'ed up on the last batch but dont really know where.. I'm trying to narrow it down.. Does the seed, like the clone or cutting need 24hrs of light or does the seed need some darkness to allow growth?

Thanks in advance!!

After trying many different germination methods here is my tried and FULLY TESTED near perfect method.

Equipment list..........

SEEDS
MEDIUM
WATER
POT
HUMIDITY DOME (i use the bottom of a clear plastic bottle)
SMALL LOW WATTAGE CFL or FLOURO 6400k (blue)
Now here is the trick item
MYCORRHIZAL FUNGI (this is pretty inexpensive)

Step1
Prepare your medium in your potand water it fully.

Step2
Make a small hole in your medium and put a pinch of MYCORRHIZAL FUNGI granules into the hole .

Step3
Plant your seed into the hole (no presoaking required) and gently brush your medium to cover the seed.

Step4
Place the plastic bottle bottom over like a humidity dome and place under the flouro or cfl on 18/6 .

Step5
WAIT!!!!! Patience here is the key. Just do NOTHING the seed will begin to grow. On average mine take 2-3 days to pop above ground but can take as long as 10 days.

I planted a bag seed in a potting peat mix and 2 days later I see a 2cm root poking out. It is in a seed tray with a humidity cover/dome. It should be moist and not soggy. Wipe off the condensation of the cover every now and then.

Why go through the trouble of the paper towel method? You have to replant the seed and may risk killing it if it doesn't adapt to the new conditions. If you do in a peat pots or jiffy peat pellets you can leave it there until it gets several inches tall and replant it with ease.

Also wanted to say I covered the seeds very lightly. Take a tiny ball of peat and put it over the seed and push to cover it. As for lighting aspect, I don't think it's important. Just don't have it under a hot CFL, that's not necessary for a bean to pop.

Thank you Thank you Thank you...

I started this thread after going 0 for 3 then 0 for 4.... since reading this thread, i am 5 for 5... so i cant thank you guys enough..

What I did was drop 5 of them into 5 shot glasses.. in a dark warm area.... within two days all had popped.. i had no problems with this before..

but what i did now....
-i put 5 jiffy pucks in water
- put each puck into one 10" wide clear plastic overflow dish for planting pots..
- put that dish into a 12 x 24 planting tray with a 7" high dome
- then poured some water into the planting tray, about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch high..
- i put the tray onto a heating pad on low and had three single socket cfl grow bulbs about 6-8 inches above the dome.
- then i set the lights to 18/6

and viola... one day three popped up an inch and another day the other two came up about an inch.. Wow am i happy...

I was worried the temp killed the first seven seeds, ouch still hurts to think about it, so i wanted to put the heating pad into the mix, but not wanting to heat them up too much I put the 1/2 inch of water in the planting tray to prevent any hot spots drying out the pucks, the pucks going into the clear tray like a little boat, kept the pucks from being drenched by the water..

The result was a very high humidity level in the dome and perfect warm temps... i almost dont believe how fast they popped.. after loosing 7 seeds that already had a tap root showing, this is a very nice turn around..

Three more went in from this months attitude promo... keep you posted in three days to let you know how they r doing..

Cheers..

i am using rapid rooter plugs and i put my seeds into the dome after they cracked in a cup of water, it has been 40 hours and still no sprout out the top, should i use my t5s over the dome yet

Put the seeds in the soil directly man. I just got 30 for 30 sproutlings using this method. Sometimes I think we expect things to be a lot harder than they are.

just put your seeds between damp paper towel place them on a plate, put a plate on top to cover place in warm dark place, in a few days you will have sprouted. G/L
