Plenty of room and a fair amount of money, simplest set up to start out

Howdy,

I've never grown before, but I just bought a house and I've got a whole basement room to myself; half will be tools and workshop, the other half/quarter will be a new garden.

I've got a fair 5'x8' of space in the main room [give or take, haven't built the dividing walls yet, so I'm open to better room dimensions if that matters]. Plus I have a 3'x3' closet that will be available in that section of the room.

I've got about $350 to spend to set up - that includes lighting, soil, testers, etc. It doesn't include the money for the dividing wall (framing & drywall). I've also already got: a variety of pots and fans. I'm not concerned about exhaust or smell, its a basement room behind 2 doors [unless you really think I should be?].

I'm planning to just use bagseed to start with.

I understand its 3-4 months on average from seed to harvest, and I'm looking at some attrition because of males; but I'd like to pull down about 4-5 ounces every 3-4 months. I usually burn about an ounce a month, and I'd like to be covered for that plus a little more.

I'm not *as* concerned with quality right now, quantity is my primary goal. I'm not expecting to grow brick weed, so even some midgrade type stuff is fine (hence the bagseed)

Point me in the right direction for lights especially. T5s? HPS? MH? A combination? How much do I need to a) start enough plants so that when i sex them, I've got enough females left to generate 4+ oz and b) nurture those remaining females properly to get the most buds. I understand a 16/8 and then 12/12 schedule is best - what light(s) during each and what lights for sprouting/seedlings?

Thanks so much in advance.
