Polar Bear CC-25 Chiller

Hello, I am doing my first run in an aeroflo60 my first time running this unit, I do have a couple years experience with Soilless mediums bubt got sick of lugging Promix so I am trying this unit, after the first week my res temps averaged out in the high 70s and the grow store said I need to get my temps down (everything seems to be growing good roots tho) so I bought this Polar Bear CC-25 (not CC-25b) after having it hooked up for 2 days, I cant get my temps down past 72?

The woman at the grow store said not to use a pump, but the website says to use a minimum of 100gph max 400gph?

Question? Does anyone use this same chiller? Any suggestions are very much appreciated!:wall:

I was using a 1/4hp chiller to cool my reservoir in my af60 and it worked just fine, different brand
but similar ratings. What size pump are you using? I found that slower pumps worked better as it
was suggested that the water had more time to dissipate the heat inside the chiller. Where is your
chiller located, I ran hosing into an adjoining room where my chiller was located and this made
quite a big difference from running the chiller inside my room. Only other thing I could think of is
to ask if you had let it stand upright for a good amount of time? Not a refrigeration expert but all
my chillers had very specific instructions to make sure the unit was not turned on its side. Maybe try
turning the unit off for 6 hours or so letting it stand upright then powering it back on?

Is the pump that runs the sprayers in the rails the same pump circulating water to the chiller? I don't run the chiller you're talking about, I went with 1/2 horse hydrofarm. I actually bought the thing with a couple hours on it from a guy that runs an aeroflo , his ad said he didn't see a need for it but I certainly had one, especially with summer coming on. I was going to buy a 1/10 horse hydrofarm new from the hydro store but they had to tell me there was no returning them and there was no guarantee the thing would even work right , depending on many factors like how many pumps, and if you cycle the pumps or not. I use a 150 liter igloo cooler for my diy aeroflo ripoff, I have one 1000 gph pump running 24/7 to and from the chiller, I have a 1500 gph sump that surely generates some heat (its 290 watt) , it runs my sprayer heads so I can afford to cycle it, I don't like drenched roots anyway, spraying then allowing to dry out a little is the way to do it I think. I run the sump at 1 minute or less on and 3-4 off . I also have a 400 gph submersible running a filter and just dumping back in the res. my temps stay cool but my res consists of 30 gallons tops. I keep it at 66 degrees f , the chiller really doesn't come on that much since the res is insulated.

I have tried a 400gph pump, put the temps down from 79 to 74 and now i got a 50 gph pump thats got it down to 72 BUT the chiller is constantly running and the water inside the chiller wont drop past 74, the unit is cube so its very unlikely its ever been on its side. i will try and attach a pic

I am wondering if maybe the insulation is a factor? the air temp in my room is about 78-80. At first, i was under the impression that i wouldnt even need a chiller but from everything i have read you dont want the res temps climbimg over 75? chiller is attached to a 50gph sup pump at the moment, thinkin on starting a grow journal cause i have so many questions!
