so just for shits and giggles i bought a fan, foil, a 6500k cfl and threw them in the closet just for a little then throw them outside. i was curious if the cfl i bought will do that for me? and when should i move them outside?

photo.jpgdont be too harsh on me, im just doing all of this as a first time learning experience :)

it looks good man but foil is bad. it creates hot spots that your plant focuses on. for around 20 bucks you can get mylar or you can go to walmart and get a couple "emergency camping blankets" they are only a couple bucks a piece and are fantastic for reflecting light. cheaper than foil i promise. find them in the sporting goods section. looks good bro just make sure you keep temps down and get a few more cfls. 24 watts or higher. revert to this link for more info on growing with cfls http://forum.grasscity.com/absolute-beginners/122824-kamels-cfl-guide.html

thanks bro i appreciate i thought i was gonna catch some negative feedback right off the bat!! So your saying that one one wont work well for those 2 ive got right now? i dont plan on bringing more in.

Hey what size cfl is that ? Its recommended that you use 100 watts for the first plant, plus an extra 50watts for each plant added. So i'd opt for more or bigger light, if you can swing by wal-mart and grab atleast 5 25watt CFLs or 6 24watt of the 6500k kelvin for veg. As for as hanging the lights i'd just get some 2 or 3 lamp sockets with Y-splitters so you can plug in 2 bulbs to each socket. Depending on where (northern climate) its already to late to start a plant for outside, you'd get little if any bud.

well like i said im just trying my hand at this so im gonna try and at least get a little this season. and as for the cfl i purchased, its a 26 watt, 6500k bulb. and i dont want to have much more light in there, so if i buy a Y spiltter like you said and just run 2 of the same bulbs ive got, will that get the job done? and @Tranceus its sitting at about 80 degrees, i took the back wall of foil down and left the sides just until i can get the things you suggested?

yeah thatll be fine. check that link i posted for you as well. if you dont get enough light in there it wont be worth it to even grow. 35 or 40 more dollars will get you enough light and those camping plankets i was talking about. that little bit of money will be worth it 15 fold in the long run i promise. skip on buying that next bag of schwag and get those lights and those blankets. also create a grow journal in the grow journals thread and post pics regularly and people will help all along the way.

I agree with Tranceus, if you really want to try your hand at growing i'd spend the extra $40 bucks and get those lights and blankets. 48 Watts of CFL just won't cut it, you'll experience slow stretchy growth which in turn will just have you pissed and wishing you spend the extra $40 :weed:

for sure, lol i dont want to be a pain but, how many lights should i end up with in there for 2 plants? thank you so much for the help.

For two plants i'd personally put 200watts, but in reality all you need is 100watts for the 1st plant and 50watts for the 2nd. So 150watts overall would be ideal.

about 6 to 8. the more the better but 8 26w lights should do you a great job espically if you have them in the right spots. keep them about5 inches from the tops of your plants and some in between and around the sides of your plant after it gets bigger so that the branches get light as well. i would go with 4 2700k and 4 6500k. look at the back of the box and it will tell you the K temperature of the light which is pretty much the color of the spectrum it produces. and 1 more thing. make sure you not only have a fan inside your space circulating air but that you have a port somewhere where new air comes in. its best to have the new air coming in at the bottom of the room cuz heat rises and carrys air with it so if new air is coming in up top it wont do too much good. and 80 degrees is a little on the hot side. find a way to drop the temps to around 75 you definately dont want any temps higher than 82-85 cuz at that temp the pores on the leafs of your plant close up so it can better keep cool and then it will not take in any oxygen, thus far stunting its growth.

Noo 8 CFLs in total 4 being 2700 Kelvin and the other 4 being 6500 Kelvin.
2700 Kelvin is good for budding where 6500Kelvin is good for veg growth, so its a good idea to have a mixture of both.. ya dig:leaf:

no 4 2700k 26w cfls and 4 6500k 26 w cfls. totaling 8 in all. if you wanted to you could even get a power strip. get some of those plug ins that have a light socket directly connected to them and make you a cool little grow light strip. id even get a aluminum cake baking pan and attach it to the power strip as a reflector. thatd be a cool diy light right there
so 4 cfls in all? just making sure

Wouldn't it be better having an outtake at the top of the box... That way all the hot air is being directed out of the room while fresh cool air can still find its way in via passive intake. I read it was always better to have an outtake fan rather then a intake if you had to choose?

yeah sorry i left that part out. yes if he can add an outtake that would be very good. now i feel dumb lol but an intake at the bottom is good as well.

No need to feel dumb buddy everyone makes a stoner mistake now and again haha , but yeaa totally agree'd if he has space/funds adding an outake+intake is def suggested way better temp control imo. :bigjoint:
