Poor start to second grow.

Hey Bro's

My second grow had a poor start due to me being a little cocky about having successfully completed one. My temps for the first 7 days were way to high and this placed a lot of stress on the seedlings manifesting in abnormal leaves and big differences in development. Also for this grow im attempting mainlining and completely hashed up my attempts. I paid more attention which I what I should of been doing from day one I they look to be turning a corner with very noticeable vigorous growth now everday.
Day time temps are 24-26C
Night time temos 18.4 -20C
RH 50-60% lights on 65-75% lights off
My medium is soil BioBizz all-mix and im growing in x3 10 gallon and x3 12 gallon smart pots if my memory serves me right. I buffered the soil with dolomite lime when I transplanted aswell as adding the obligatory Superthrive and gave them 1/4 strength feed 3 days ago for the first time at 4 weeks 3 days from germ.
Finally the strain is Master Kush X Afghan Haze from Mr Nice Seeds. Have only taken this pic because there hasn't really been much progress to document till now.

Any input much welcome.

Hey LGC good to have u back up in the heezy yeah by the smell already I think this ones gonna make alot of people sit up. Hey lopsi will gladly. Basically paper towel method. 2 kitchen towels on a plate/saucer made quite damp but not drenched with seed placed on top. Then again towels damp plate/saucer. Put them in dark place and within 24 hrs they sprout or whatever. Also I presoaked them in mineral water for 18 hours before the paper towel method. This has always worked for me.

Once sprouted I put them in root it sponges and presoaked those sponges in a sachet of stuff provided with the sponges I also added Superthrive. I carefully pot the seeds with tweezers tap root down into sponges and tore a peice from each sponge to cover them. I then put them straight under light but temps got up to 28-29C and on day spiked at 32C. After a few days I noticed they didnt look happy so I doubled my efforts and got it down into a comfy range. I bought a humidifier which also helped stabilized temps because the mist they create is cold??? I wasn't expecting that.

So now with temps and humidity down they were growing ok but then I butchered them. One thing about me is sometimes an overload of information just puts a red flashing error sign in front of my eyes. I read nuggbuckets thread on mainlining but when I topped my plants I cut the main stem then for some reason cut the new growth out aswell thinking the already established fan leaves would attain apical dominance. Basically i removed the little shoots each side of the main stems thankfully halfway through I was like 'hang on'.

So that combined with the temps slowed things. I managed to get smarts pots but they only had the larger ones in stock. It took 4 and 1/4 50l bags of soil to fill those SOB's. The guy at the store put them in black plastic bags 'as they do' and I remember the cabbie having picked me up from said store saying 'u dont look like a gardener'. I was like 'well I am' and no he didn't drop me outside my residence.

Mixed the soil up with dolomite lime and perlite. Ran out of vermiculite but have heard that all mix is already good to go. To be honest after carrying 5 bags of 50l soil I was like fuck it. That's pretty much it up until present.

Thanks

Hi District,
Plants look good. Hey, isn't one of the advantages of smart pots that you can grow larger plants in them? So why are you using such huge pots? You could literally grow trees in them...and I mean pine trees! lol

Thats all they had in stock. Literally last 6. They seem to be showing the effects now of all the benefits smart pots give. Looking forward to seeing what happens later and seeing the root ball.

At which node did you cut your new 2 stems from the first topping? And how many nodes each of your 2 stems had until the chop?

I cut early at about 2 and a half weeks fourth node. Apparently thats early and because of the stress already on the plants the fourth node was barely showing. Im not sure if that answers your question. I didn't remove all of the lower foliage when topping I left that a couple of days later. Perhaps removing at the same time is best. I was going for 8 but they range fron 5-10 tops currently. Thats top then topping again (on each new shoot) then once more for 8 tops (again on every new shoot).

Yea i was asking cause i did the same fucking mistake! And now it is stressed , in top of that i overwatered, almost killed it ha, but its growing now i'leave it in peace. Fuck i can't take my hands of them! My 2 mains now have 5 nodes each, i will let them until 7 nodes and i will cut in node 5 each.

District you're looking good, prally topped early and stressed them but it's ok!!

I'd like to focus on the soil part really. I 've done the same thing; putted my sprouted seeds in the All Mix and they didn't seem to like it, too much nutes for a new and tender lady. Prally Light Mix is better for your first (small) pot.
Won't do it again. With this, and some light bleaching, almost fell 2.5 weeks behind - bounced back - with the cost of staying small, though.

I mean, could this be also one of the reason they're kinda behind schedule? Just saying!

Cheers!

I put them in light mix first I should've made that clear. I changed soil about 2 1/2 weeks in. I think it was the temps and topping really.

My first thought is that with them in such large pots already, you're gonna be pulling up a lawn chair to watch the grass grow until the roots get comfortable, THEN the foliage growth will really take off.
I couldn't believe the diff. in time taken just from a Solo cup, to some 4" pots that a friend gave me.
Don't get disappointed, or impatient, they look fine, and you should be able to start ramping up your nutes if you're a month old already.
