Pot size dilemma

Another weird question when growing in a cupboard cfl style , does it really matter on pot size ? I mean in my
Experience with outdoor growing the bigger the pot the better for growth and yields , but I've been reading that ppl indoors grow in a small pot then transplant into a bigger one can I not then just put it in the size of the pot I want it in immedielty as to not stress the plant out ? Any help greatly appreciated

Yes you can. I think people won't/don't because they have overwatered a small plant in a large pot and got substandard results and blamed it on the pot size, or if you're growing from seed and are expecting to toss out some runts it's nice not having them taking up more space than needed.

So would a 5lt bucket be suffice ? Like I will make holes on the side of the Bucket for drainage as to not over water just for pot size would u say that's sufficient ?
