So, first grow here. The two seeds I've been germination have finally popped (after about 32 hours) and I've already planted them in a couple of 16oz plastic cups.
So my soil mix is:
2 Parts Perlite
1 Part Composted Horse Manure
There's not a whole lot of manure in there, so I'm wondering if I'm getting decent water retention? I've placed the two starters in my window sill where temperatures average between 75 - 90*F during the day - haven't checked for nighttime temps yet. I'm also supplementing them with 1 20w CFL hanging about an inch above the cups.
Since this is my first grow, I'm trying to keep things as simple/natural as possible. When I watered the cups a bit, I noticed the water flowing through to the holes at the bottom fairly quickly, adding around 1 - 2 ounches per cup before drainage occured. But when I look at the mix, it seems quite dry to me.
What I'm basically asking is... is it normal?
