power has been out for 5 days and should be 2 more before it's turned back on. The plants look great and dont seem to be stretching too much. I've been using tap water. What should i do to reduce shock after the power turns back on?

You in norcal? Mine was out for a day. Thank God for the generator, plants didn't miss a second of light. Sounds like your plants are goners unless you have them running on a generator.

whoa, i never even thought about having a back up generator to keep the plants running on, what would be some prominent things to look for in a generator to keep as a back-up for just such an emergency? Brands, features, ect... i want to invest in one now. If my power went out for days on end and my plants died i would be so pissed....the worst i've encountered is a day and a half w/o power but i only had 2 plants at the time and both of them survived and prospered well

i would suggest a power inverter which connects to a car battery but i still have to do a big of research i will get back to you soon on it though...

those power inverters are powered by the alernator, not the battery of a car..... you would not be able to run even a 400 watt hps for more than 20 minutes...

If this helps...
There's a kit out there use mainly on boats that recharges car batteries on solar pannels mounted on say your roof. Check old water district or gov stupid jobs sometimes they throw away optima batteries they use for I don't give a shit.. yes really I got 6 blue top optima batteries about a year ago for free.. one in my car and the others to good use don't worry about it!!!!!!! cool.....glad his all worked out....backup generators can come in various capacities.....the more affordable ones generally are sufficient for a few lights and heat.....but anything beyond that is generally quite expensive if I recall correctly. backup generation is like insurance you hope you never have to use it...and then its a measure of how much do you put out to gain confidence with that risk.....good luck man! :blsmoke:
