power outages and HID lights question

Just moved to a new place and the wind here is insane!the power will go out on windy days (like today) breifly, like 2 seconds. It's enuff ofcourse to shut down my 400 w hps and I run and unplug it, as it does not fire up on it's own when this happens, wait 10-15 and plug it in.I have a 1000 w as well I was planning on firing up as soon as my new clones are ready.Super worried about the consequences of running these lights like that

1.what will it do to the plants?
2.is it dangerous?fire hazard?
3.can this destroy my equipment
4.Is there any way around this?backup power of some kind?maybe a switch so when the power does go out it cuts the power to the big lights completely so they won't try and kick back on immediately?

I would appreciate any input.......don't wanna risk lives or the house being foolish!!

Get this asap. It will protect your ballast if your not around. It will also destroy the bulb trying to fire it while hot.

Since your power outages are short, you may want to plug it in after the timer so the time doesn't get all outta whack.

The lighting delay timer is a good idea, albeit check at an online or local grow store you can get them pretty cheap there. If you've got 130.00 to spare invest in a UPS backup. Since your outages are short you should have no problem supplying up to 500 watts of power for a while and then you don't have to be interrupted at all.
also if your outtages are short you maybe alright but if you start to stress your plants you will end up with hermies, i am speaking from exact experience on this one and lemme tell ya it sux!! SO GET IT FIXED

I know I get hermies everytime the damn clouds and rain roll in... and a UPS for 10 minutes of 1100w (a 1000w draw) costs $939, so I think you need to check figures lol
