PPM Question

When lowering or making your PPM higher do you include your waters PPM into it.
our water
Example;

You need 600PPM of Nutrients but your water is 200PPM.

Would you up your PPM to 800PPM to account for your waters PPM or stick to straight 600PPM which yould give you 400 actuial PPM of nutrient Minues any PM up or down at sub PPM.

I use aeroponics..

I'm just speculating here as I don't know with absolute certainty but I personally subtract my taps ppm from my added ppm and compensate my reasoning being if your water is 200ppm and you put it in your Rez it's just water maybe some calcium but really no nutrients definitely not the same as starting with 0ppm water and adding 200ppms of nutrient So I always called the original ppm of the water my zero mark and then added accordingly makes sense to me. If any more scientifically knowledgable people would like to rebuke my methods please do I'd be happy to find out I was wrong but so far it's worked for me. Hope this helps brotha

Yeah your right, you get different ppms in different hardwater and soft water areas, I doubt its just calcium in the water the government add fluoride and all sorts of poisions to council pop like chlorides as well, get a r/o filter 50£ off amazon

Yeah I just love fluoride I'm my water nothing like a neurotoxin to wet the ole whistle lol

Now when I drink tap water or run a shower i can literally taste the chlorine and metals in the water, its like drinking swimming bath water.

Ya my water is 200 PPM Will be getting a R/O.

So if I have 200PPM should I subtract it or no?
meaning if I need 600PPM of nutrients should I be at 800PPM to account for water or 600total?
Thats the one thing I cant figure out.

Yeah that's right mate, although you really do want cleaner water than 200ppm, 200ppm of chlorides fluoride chlorine and all the other chemicals//poisons used at the water purification centers

I dont want to get nute lock because of my PPM.
Thanks for clearing that up.
Will be getting a R/O asap.

This is my first grow but I have everything other than a humidifier and R/O and air stones which will be aquired very soon.

Air stones are a must, helps agitate/mix the resiviour so it doesn't go stale and helps kill bad bacteria

Humidifier isn't necessary, its only when you get some £££ behind you want to think like that mate.

Also you get humidifier controllers that attach 2 the humidifier that turns it on+off to set the dialed in rh

Yes but I have serious issues with my room. Rh is about 25 so I have alot of water buckets in there tog et it up to 50-60 max for veg and <40 for flower.
I am using Aeroponics but will still get air stones.

The hotter the air is the more moisture per sq ft the air can hold + lower rh gets, could you not soak towells in water and hang em on walls of ya grow room, do that daily

Ya im doing that as well as fans on buckets which is working great to get me to 55 rh.

yea you need a humidifier trippy.


200ppm is high for water but it depends whats in it ?

people water their plants indoor and outdoor everyday from the tap or hose without knowing the ppm and the plants are fine.

it depends whats in the water.


if your plants are doing fine now then they maybe no need to get an RO unit

if they die then get one.




do as the guy above says and treat your water as 0ppm as there is no nutes in the water so you wont get nute burn

What conversion factor is your ph meter?
Because 200ppm @.5 is usually going to still be ok go use.
200ppm @.7 is almost always going to be ok to use.
I don't even begin to trip unless the EC is .5 or higher. I've never had a problem with .4EC and lower.

your 200ppm is a concern trippy, the more minerals in your water the harder it is the higher the ppm .

hard water bad for cannabis

soft water good


you can test your water with washing up liquid, a palm full of water straight from your tap and a tiny drop of washing up liquid, make soap bubbles by rubbing your hands together..... If the bubbles are difficult to make then your waters HARD .

if you get lots of bubbles easily then your waters SOFT and you have no need to get an RO unit.


do the bubbles test or as our American friends say ..... " sud's " lol



or you can google a water quality map of your area and this will tell you the areas where you live which have hard or soft water and you can also find out what the 200ppm actually is by phoning your water suppliers or going online.


200ppm is a concern to some ....... The rest are just paranoid

Having a e.c. of .4 is not hard water...and is a good starting point for nutrients.My municipal water is 1.2 e.c. So r/o is a must where i live.

Hell, my tap water is 600+PPM. If it was any harder, I could walk on it. Because of that I have an RO machine...but I think I could get by without it if my tap was 200PPM.

There's trace amounts of cyanide, lots of calcium, fluoride, added chlorides, poisons
