Pre-Contact Cable Cmpy about Digital Ballast?

Hello all,

I'm looking for a few quick opinions.. I'm setting up a new room with digital ballasts and I'm a little concerned about the RF interference. . I live in a medical state and this will be a legal grow.

Given that, I will be buying my ballasts soon but do not plan to start growing for a while yet. Would it be a good idea to have the cable company come over when it's just the ballasts in an empty room, and flip them on for the first time while they are there so they can check on the spot for interference?
I'd rather not have them come surprise me once I start growing and have them banging on my door and possibly cutting off my internet..
Any of you done this before? Sound like a good idea or should I just not worry about it? Thanks.

My 600w Solistek ballast sits about 10ft from my router, and causes zero interference. Maybe a cheap ballast will cause problems?

Thanks everyone.

Since this is legal I don't really see a need to try and block it, unless my neighbors or myself get problems with the internet. I've been researching this topic for a while now, and it seems RF interference can vary dramatically between ballasts even of the same model and brand. Even the most premium brands like Solis Tek even admit to having this problem. I know there are various things you can do to block the RF, but I think the cable company could probably do a much more professional job of blocking it, I don't like the look of aluminum foil or faraday cages around my equipment... Yes I'm picky, like things clean and proper.

That being said I think I will contact them and explain my situation and see what they have to say about it. Opinions still welcomed on what you would do!

Okay I've contacted the cable company (Comcast).

They were very helpful on this issue. They've asked that I contact them after I've purchased and installed my digital ballasts. They will come out at that point and test the interference before and after I turn them on. If interference is found they will correct it. That simple :)

Good to hear. What ballast are you going with? Also, post back with whatever info comes if the testing. I'm curious as to what happens. Thanks.

tell NO ONE about your grow dude, unless absolutely necessary. that was your 1st newb mistake. if the cable co has an issue with RF, they will tell you. I run 4x 600w (3x hps, 1x mh) digital ballasts (Apollo) and are 15' from my router with NO walls separating them. I have ZERO RF issues, and been growing this way for about 3 years. I have comcrap as well as my neighbors. no complaints, no issues, no need to bring it to comcraps attention.

now when comcrap comes to do an RF test, you have a great chance of them bringing in unwanted bugs, and the tech or 2 will know you grow. they may tell a friend about your grow, then months down the line your place gets broken into and all your shit stolen. or worse, kicks down your door and robbed at gun point for everything. there are shady ass people in this world, which the #1 rule about growing is "DONT TELL ANYONE"!!!!!!!!!
