Hey guys, i'm in the midst of setting up my first grow room and I have a couple questions for the experienced connoisseurs out there. I'm keeping it 100% organic with a 50/50 mix of peat moss and compost, along with a small bag of worm castings a guy from the grow shop gave me. I'm also going to mix in sand for extra drainage and to make sure the roots can freely grow in the 40 litre/10 gallon pots. Anything else I should add to my potting mix?
First of all my room is quite small, only 116 cubic feet, but I want to use it to its full potential without sacrificing quality. The dimensions of the floor are 5 3/4' x 3 1/4'; the roof is 7 1/2' at it's highest point but because of the staircase it tapers down to 5.1' at the opposite end. I've included pictures below to better understand; I am going to drywall the back wall and put up poly everywhere once everything is set up.
I bought a 1000 watt HPS that I will use for flowering, and I will most likely purchase a 400 watt MH for veggin. My original idea was to split off a small area in the back of the room with poly and veg clones for the last 30 days or so of flowering. My thought behind this was that when the big beauties are cropped I can move over the smaller, veggin plants to the HPS so I could constantly have flowering plants. Now that I have the pots in the room I now realize that it would be nearly impossible to reach the back of the room with 4 bushy beasts in the way.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how I could veg clones in my room while the big guys are still flowering?....I know that I could just veg them in a separate room, but I'm trying to keep this as stealth as possible.
The pictures below show how I plan to have the pots set up; do they look too close together? Is there any rule of thumb as to how close/far the plants should be?
I have ordered a 250 CFM activated carbon filter that I will use to exhaust the air. I was thinking about wiring a dimmer switch to the fan to control it's speed. I bought a dimmer switch that says it's purpose is for 600 watt lights. Do i need to by a specific switch to control the fan? I have two options as to where this air will end up. I'm undecided as of yet whether I should exhaust the air into the sewage system, via an L-joint in the piping from an upstairs toilet, or if I should use a vent that blows air out the roof of my house. I have pictures of both options below. I am going to use a passive exhaust system so all air coming in will be through various minute cracks. Being that this room is almost directly below the front door of my house I bought a can of foaming gap filler to minimize air/smell leaks.
Any ideas, thoughts, or comments on mistakes i'm making would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thank you guys!
