Hello everybody!
I'm not a very active member here but I'm hoping there are a few out here with experience in the ''problem'' I'm trying to solve. Soon I will be buying a new house which is yet to be developed and I'm thinking about building a prefab basement under my garage which will be attached to the house. I've been happily indoor growing for quite a few years now, I love the hobby and I'm planning to move my new growing room in this optional basement. There is one thing which worries me and that is of course the possible humidity and mold problems.
The basement will be around 7m x 3.5m x 2.4m (D x W x H) or 22ftx 11ft x 8ft (D x W x H) in feet. The grow room in there will be 3m x 3m x 2m or around 10ft x 10ft x 7ft. There will be no windows in the basement and it will be prefab built according to the highest standardswith virtually no risks of leakage through the walls.
The grow room will of be blowing out the excessive heat from the tent through a window in the garage above it. But this will of course mean that air the temperature equal to that of the garage above it will be sucked into the basement itself. Now this garage will be isolated but the temperature in it will be very heavily affected by the weather outside. Since the temperature in the basement will be around a constant of 16/17 C or 60/62 F, is there a risk that the walls will start to condensate with the risk of mold? My main concern lies with the summer when the temperatures outside can rise to around 38 C/ 100 F. This means high temperatures will be sucked into the basement. Are my worries justified or will I have no problems at all? Should I be warry not to suck in too much heat and will I be ok? I literally have no experience in growing in basement so all the help is very welcome!
PS: I would rather not use a dehumidifier since I'm trying to keep the electricity bill as low as possible. If this is the only option that actually works I will of course consider it.
