I would say 80% is strain and 20% is other. A good strain will yield for a piss poor grower. I have friends that somehow pull 2 1/4 lbs and spend about 1/2 the time on there grow that I do. I grow around 30 strains always with exactly the same soil, light, fertilizer, humidity, air flow, and so on with very different results. Sometimes I'll get a QP off a plant and some times an oz. That reminds me I better get out and get to work some of the Lost Coast OG is ripe and ready to pick. Its going to be a good day!!

research and experience is needed.

you need to read, read, read and then read some more.

get a room built and a grow going. while it is growing read some more.

after each grow you will gain more experience and make adjustments as needed.

you may want to upgrade the light or ventilation, better soil or switch to hydro, nutes, or even the water can cause issues.

you may want to change the style of growing lst, mainline, sog, scrog, flat grow or vertical etc.

better genetics can often help with yield and or quality. when choosing a strain take into consideration if you want quantity or quality. of course we all want both.

just knowing the strain from previous grows can increase the yield to a certain point.

there is so much more but you get the idea. what works for me may not work for you.

.....soontoBeMAStERofGrowingsomething.....hopefully lol. Sorry kid, i just cant help but bust your chops with threads like this and a name like yours. The juxtaposition makes me laugh every time. Ya seem like an alright cat though.

Cramming, cramming your space or light footprint as full as possible helps.
Uniformity-all the same height under the same light. Same strain, same age, same everything will help you. Less adjusting and variables. Think production.
High quality lighting, digital ballasts esp., check out the new double ended lights from sunlight supply, digimax double ended. Google it.
Strain obviously ;)
Temperature control, so hugely important. Heat will kill a harvest weight.
Luck, patience, experience, and diligence in the grow room are also key. Which reminds me........adious ;)

Come to Humboldt and I'll give you a Blue Dream strain that is bullet proof.lol It produces roughly .9 grams per watt and takes fertilizer like a champ. I'm getting board with her and am looking for a loud Scout strain that I've seen locally here over the past few months. I try not to buy clones because of the mites and crap they carry with them. I'm going down to the Bay area in a month or so and I'm going strain tracking. I also like the pure Platinum OG its a real heavy weight along with its cousin Animal Cookies. Here are a couple of Blue Dream shots from this morning when I was giving them a diluted FF milk bath. There still a few weeks from finished but looking ok. This particular strain smells like fresh blueberries and tested around 23%. Its grown completely organic or at least 99% and always turns out perfect. I also dropped a cat pic I think shes contact high, whenever I smoke she comes running its like pot-nip!

seriously I know I will get less than .5 g a watt first grow. This is my plan. Waiting for my Green Posion fem seeds I will construct 9 dwc buckets and order my pump of ebay. I will use nutrients start low and gradualise. I will not use Bud candy or other snakeman oils but use pk 14 at 5 weeks. I will vegative for 6 weeks total that include the seed stage of life. I will top as de3scribed by unclebuck for 4 tops mains and lst tie down for an even capope at flowering, I will control temp by clip fan intake fan from cold air outside aand carbon filter out stale hot air. I have getting a 600watter on the way with a cool tube. I will get a Ph pen and an ECpen also I will get some nice inpesticides like soapy spray just incase of mighty spiders. I will germinise by putting so they sink in cup and then in paper towel then into the growballs or clay into the bucket. Thanks for helpfulness

Have you ever tried plasma lighting? [...] Course it costs a grand a light.
Not personally no. I've seen a few people run it (sannie's dutch grow forum, he has some vids on youtube too) and while it seems great it's indeed expensive especially since I don't grow commercially. 1gpw is supposedly very doable with a 300w lep but still used in combination with a hps or LED. 1k watt double ended hps + 300w lep, that'll do

The key is to avoid extremes. As in not far too little or too many plants, nutes, light, heat, water, etc.

For example, take a 5x5 tent/closet, add 1k watter HPS with a quality hood, 1000-1200m3h exhaust (roughly 1 cubic meter per hour 'per watt'), humidity between 40-60%, day temp 77-83, night temp 65-73, add 5-9 plants, veg till roughly 1/3-1/2 of the space is filled (depending on strain, some take longer to transition and stretch more, like sativa-dom hybrids), crop into roughly 36-50 bud sites (like 6x6 or 7x7) and make sure they have enough water and nutrients but never too much (skip the PK13/14...).

Strain yield per plant or w/e is not as relevant as most people seem to think either, there's only so much bud you can fit in a given space, whether that is 36 fat colas from a high yielder or 50 from a lower yielder doesn't matter that much. What's more important is the flowering time, better get 0.9gpw in 8 weeks than 1.0gpw in 11 weeks.
