properly planting seeds

I soaked some seeds for about 24 hours and they are now ready to be placed in my rockwall cubes.

Does it matter which direction I place the seed? OR does the plant instinctively know which way to shoot the root out. (I am speaking in laymans terms). If anybody wants to give me a little seed science, bring it on....

A couple of my seeds have started to open up. I assume that is the root so that end should be pointed down. Right?
