My friend above me can;t say it any better! Miracle gro organic choice, during veg (and early flowering) is a godsend. Most people who are trying too shit talk MG will go "12% nitrogen aint enough"

First of all I've found it's enough, and second off if it aint for your plant...its a liquid...add more...lol.

Great stufff. Highly recommended. Use in every grow.

I've heard alot of things about using MG can someone tell me exactly what is good about it and what is bad. :leaf:
Psst..one thing you will never find on this forum is someone complaining that Ocean Forest, Happy Frog or any other upper tier soil, burning their plants. Cant say that about MG.

I use my car analogy, when I was younger and not as experienced I drove a Chevy because it was good on gas and it was alright to drive even though there was better. When I got older and more wise to how things work I picked up a Jeep so I could customize it to the way I like. MG works fine but if you really want to have some fun go with something a little better, your plants will thank you in the long run.

ROFL....

Are you going to make me dig up the Fox Farms vs Miracle Grow threads that all show in the end that MG grew bigger and better looking plants? I'll be happy to link them for any doubters. FF is fine to grow in as well, but it is pricey, it is not as easy to find at your local retailer and it doesn't offer the same high results that MG has proven time and time again.

That analogy isn't only silly, it's laughable...

Here is a thread from a RIU poster that grew cuttings from the same plant in either MG or FFOF and he let the nutes in the soil do the work. The MG plants easily, hands down, beat the FF plants.

It's a long thread, but here it is....

It's not the worst thing in the world to grow with.. But be careful I find that MG organic potting mix is full of gnats where I live. It is heavy and needs to be amended. And just an FYI if you are going organic don't use the MG perlite, it has MG chemical fertilizer in in.

I find you're best off to forget MG foxfarm etc. and just mix your own. Just my opinion.

Peace.

CHeck out my sig grow, plants are in veg had to LST them after 30 days because they were pushing over a foot with no added nutes

if you check out posts regarding nutrient profiles, the correct one for MJ was supposed to be NPK 3-1-2, MG is something like 24-8-16 which to me is the same ratio so it should be ok, it gets slagged off by people who know that mg's manufactureres wont defend themselfs against comments that its no good for MJ because they dont want to be asociated with MJ growing.

Thanks for linking my thread, guys, it provides solid proof that MG can work very well, if done correctly. IMO, it's an excellent soil, but, has really high water-retention, and can be risky for now growers who tend to like to water a little too often.lol It'll work well on it's own, but I suggest adding at least 10% perlite, for additional drainage and aeration. In my test, I didn't try straight MG, out of the bag, I used around 20% perlite, with nothing else added. As can be seen, it more than held it's own, against FF soil. In the future, I may be testing straight MG soil, to see how that perferm against straight FF's. Hmm..... *scratches chin*

As for their nutes,..... The main problems I see, is that their recommendations are too strong, for MJ growing. As stated, the ratios are fine, and they also contain trace nutes, which should make a good fert, if used in smaller, more frequent, doses. I just germed some seeds a few days ago, and so far, am planning on testing MG nutes, against the Dynagro nutes, that I've been using for a year now. The main problem, is that both the soils are so damn rich, that they hardly need fed during veg, if at all.lol IDK, I'll figure something out, even if the test is focused mainly on flowering and yields.

Yeah I used MG Potting Mix on one of my rotations, found the mix (potting mix not the MG soil) to be way to airy with my perlite added. Water would drain so fast it wouldn't moisten the entire pots. Also, in Veg my plants showed nitrogen difficiency at 30 days or so which was easily fixed by 1/4 strength Jack's nutes and a couple foliar sprays. Overall though, with the Potting Mix, you've got a good 30 days at minimum of nutrition for your plants if the rest of your grow area is optimal for them (temps, humidity, etc)

Hi Jawbrodt!! I linnked your MG vs FFOF grow because it was needed in response to JoC's jeep analogy... (I'm still chuckling over that one)...

MG holds it's own well. You only water when it is dry and the plant will take care of itself. I didn't need liquid nutes until near the end of my veg periods. After about 3 weeks I sprinkled some lime and worm castings on top of the soil. I did not break out liquids until flower...

The organics choice soil less mix is okay, I would never use that blue food though, (Tim McVeigh loved the stuff for his bombing run though). I am an organic guy though, so that goes without saying.

Hey Serapis, how it going? I use MG soil, pretty much the same as you, as required, basically. I started foliar feeding and using CalMag Plus(which contains some nitrogen), at around week 3, which seems to be the pretty standard time to start introducing light nutes, when using MG soil, under similar conditions, to our own. I have veg fert here, but found it unnecessary, unless someone is vegging some large plants. I never fed mine any real fert, til the first week of flowering(about week 6), then stuck with bloom fert, til the end. It worked so well, that I'm going to keep using the same routine, with minor tweaks, of course.

I have to go pick up some MG soil next week, and just had an idea cross my mind, something I haven't seen here before, and something that'd further back MG soils.... Testing multiple types of MG soils against each other. I think they have 3 or 4 varieties, where I buy mine, so I'll look into it. I'd like to know, myself, after hearing "No, it's 'x type' that's the bad stuff". Interesting....

I'm very happy with MG also.

I believe a lot of first and second time growers start with MG or one of it's equivelents.
Most 1st /2nd grow don't do well because of the learning curve with simply growing. While learning, most seem to "grab at straws" and the first straw is always the soil.
So they switch,, do a third grow with their new found knowlege in super soil and declair their "Luck" with MG was terrible and thus must be crappy soil. While completely forgetting to mention that their change of lights, heat, nutes, Ph, waterings, beans, etc. also could of been a bigger part (or all) of it.

I've used the Moisture Control for awhile now and very happy with the results. I do think one needs to learn the soil (any soil) to make it work to potential.

I'll sub that thread!

(disclaimer: I'm into water sports now, I quit dirt bagging after the last grow.)
