So the norm is to grow each plant in its own pot and all that..

But what about growing them in one large container full of soil...

Why wouldnt you do it that way? purely because the plants may have individual needs?

Nope. The list of reasons could be endless, but a few of the more prominent factors are as follows:

Roots of the different plants can easily intermingle stunting growth.
Plants will actively be fighting for water and nutrients if a pot is shared.
In the event of infestation and disease, it is hard, if not impossible to isolate the problem plant from healthy one before the issue spreads.

Individual needs is one thing, It would have to be a large enough container to house a lot of roots for a long time , cuz transplanting would be a pain if they started to get root bond. There are just a lot of restrcitions that come with it, but it can be done with the ideal size and number of plants for the container

Exactly, allow me to add something to the list.
You will have more problems come flower time, either youll have to try to seperate its roots(which is nearly impossible) or leaves the dead root system in the soil with the others when you have to kill the males. Both of those are terrible. I would strongly strongly strongly strongly advise you not to do this! Only put One plant per pot.

I conducted an experiemtn a couple of grows back and planted 2 plants per 5 gal pots and compared them to output from solo plants in same conditions.... result: go for the single plant...

Also if one plant in a multi configuration develops problems you may compromise more of your grow...
