Pruning/trimming roots

I have dwc setup but I don't have a lot of space although they are not root bound yet I can see this being a problem in the future and I have read some people trim and have no problems and others say absolutely not. Any suggestions?

I'm no to trimming full stop, and so you should be too, as small roots make small plants, you do wanna have more than one toke after all the hard work you have put in so far?]
go for at least a 4 by 4 foot space as minimum

What if your only using it to pull clones from? Would that make a difference?
I kept some moms in a little cabinet for awhile in little plastic coffee cans (DWC). What ended up working best for me though was to just prune periodically (results in a lot of branching which is good for taking cuttings later) but then would just take a cutting from any that got too big (or woody) and start that plant over again as a little clone. Only had one 23w CFL in the cabinet and kept nutrients low* so growth was slow overall.

I know it doesn't answer your question about root pruning directly but I found it was overall easier to just clone the mom periodically (which wouldn't be too often if you keep light levels low).
