Pruning, yes or no?

from doing some reading i've come across really mixed opinions on pruning. based on my crop though, especially compared to some of the beautiful photos i've seen on here of super bud, i think i need to do it.

what do we think about pruning? and if i do it, what are the rules of thumb to go by?

The word pruning means different things to different people. If it means topping for example, it has its place. If it means trimming fan leaves to "let more light in" it is not the best thing for the plant. Let the plant decide when to reject leaves.

u mean like topping to promote more tops/growth then yes.. to remove leaves so light can penatrate then no... cut above a node and 2 or 4 stalks will grow... u can cut as far down as u want and shape ur plant jus make sure ur cut is above a set of nodes... try to cut off a big enuff peice and clone it..

i believe i mean topping lol tell me more on this topping thing please, in an instructional way ;p

jus as i said... cut the top off above a node, where ever u want(u want a low busy plant??? then go lower and keep doin it as it the new tops grows to each top).. that will make a small fat bush.. what ever node u cut above will force shoots outa the nodes to grow and become ur tops

yah i should have been more specific lol sorry mate. does it lengthen the period before harvest? and at what point is it best to do this?

Best to top during veg. It works better on some strains than others, i topped a hawaian snow and it went crazy. The lower branches overtook the rest of the plant and it ended up a mess.

topped this one at about the 4th or 5th node should have done at the 3. then all that junk at the botton should have been cleaned up before flowering.

thanks guys, it will probably be trial and error but at least i have a notion what i'm doing now. i will start small with it

The only pruneing that needs to be done on any cannabis plant is the bottom 4/6 ince needs takeing off so that the air can move more easy through the plants.Other than that leave it be each leave acts has a sola pannel so leave them alone.

Hmm. I am very new and am wondering about this as well. I just got some messed up clones the were on messed up light and wernt taken care of. But I'm gonna go ahead and 12/12 them and see how things go. But I have been cliping some of the big deformed leaves. Not the node part. But they seem to like it. Every it I do it the node past the leaf seems to explode. First picks is when I first got them and the second set are 1 week later and after a transplant.my friend that has done grows for 5 years said that certain leaf triming early on will promot growth because the plant stops feeding that leaf. And I understand there solor panels but what u can't really see in the second pick is that the smaller leaves are coming out everywere. And I don't think my pics are gonna load. Well. Anyone that wants to tell me other wise. Plz do. I'm still on my first experiment.

I learned to top, if you are going to do so, as soon as you see the first pair of "uneven" nodes.... which is usually about the fourth set. I did this to my outdoor plants this year and WOW.... I went from a little X-mas tree to a little bush with SIX flowers (now six buds on each plant). Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but it worked great for me on an outdoor grow. I realize that there are arguments about what it does to the yield, but my purpose was reducing height.... I personally think that I got the best of both worlds on it.

yeah it can be slightly daunting really, i look at some of the guys on here and they are growing shit that is just SO impressive. but i feel i'm in it for the long haul so i've adopted that trial an error is of absolute importance lol and then there's all this lingo used, and i don't know what half of it is yet. but instead of looking at how impressive others are, i look at my first grow compared to this one, and it's MUCH better, and if i can improve that much on each grow then i suppose one day i could be awesome too lol

i will be starting the topping soonish, so i will be sure to let you guys know how it goes. i'm going to clear off the bottom shit to let the air move, as suggested in this thread - then i'll start the node chopping SLOWLY, ha.
