anyone ever get an hps bulb that stays purple? my buddy recently got a 600w grow bright hps bulb and when he first plugged it in he said it turned a dim purple and stayed purple for like 10 mins. he wanted me to ask someone on here if that could potentially damage his eyes from looking at it. he said he only looked at it for maybe 40 seconds total. thanks. God bless everyone

most of the high powered bulbs are like that when you switch them on. and on your buddys eyes a lot of people wear sunshades when in the grow room. but your buddys eyes should be O.K. but looking at a high powered light for periods of time is not recommended.

you get that purplish tone when you start up an hps as the ignitor inside starts to warm then it fires and the light gets they distinctive orange red color.Tell him dont stare at it you can do damge to your eyes

yep actually it actually took my buddys lamp 30 mins or so b4 it really fired up. he said it was a dim purple then it turned to a dim blueish color (only looking at it for a sec) then it fired up after a total or 30 mins later. he said it could have been less than 30 mins because he wasnt in the room the whole time. ohh ya and he only looked at it for a couple secs i guess. he said it was really dim till it kicked it, i guess thats what happens with some new bulbs.

now if your in your room and your not looking directly into the bulb because they are below eye level you should be all set ,and not have to wear shades, right?

thanks for your advice guys, much obliged. God bless everyone:peace:

one way to look at it is if you've got to wear sunshades in your grow room then you've definately got enough light for FLOWERING. :joint::mrgreen:

lol, you def got a point there m8! ya just a quick update, the bulb ended up blowing up (well not really but idk what else to say). actually the arc tube came dislodged from the metal housing and was just floating in the glass bulb. obviously its not working now. Gotta love them grow brights! ha, do you think that the digi ballast has anything to do with this? as they are supposed to make a bulb burn brighter without occilation(?) right? cheers friends! God bless everyone!:peace:
