Purple Jems, One phenotype, Two growers

Well Guys after getting to know a few of you a little better lately i ran into some one who had a few purple jems that sprouted the same day as mine. 150wHPS and my self have decide to do a dual grow on these guys. Well be side by side from the same start point.

The goal is to learn from each other as well as see two different techniques on the same strain.
We will be doing weekly updates every Tue and Wed. Tue we will show pics of the progress and on Wed Talk about progress.

Of course we will be here to talk between updates and such.

Grab a chair it should be interesting.

I'm subb'd... Obviously.....

they sprouted on 4/28 making today (5/4) the last day of week one... And tomorrow (5/5) is the first day of week 2.

my grow consists of a mix of 3 strains and 3 mystery short stuff seeds... But you can read my journal for more info on that....... Anyway I have 5 Purple Jems (not fem) along with 9 other plants under 550w meaning each of my PJs are getting about 40w each... This number will probably double once I remove all the males.

I will be using 1/8 strength foxfarm nutes starting in 1 week. I will see how they respond and adjust their feeding schedule accordingly.

did you guys see the new flash auto purple mazars?
You can still pick some up at drchronic for a reasonable price but speedy is sold out.

I saw them, they look fucking kick ass!!!... I'm going to grow these out patiently and hope for a mazar journal before I get too excited... Some of those flash strains sound too good to be true....
I'm not saying they aren't capable of what they are alleging, but I am saying, that it IS hard to believe.

These two fine specimens will be growing under a 250 watt MH until they show sex, then ill switch it up to the 250watt HPS for the home stretch. Currently they are in party cups, but after the end of week two when i will be transplanting them to their final home of a 3gal pot. I too will be using the FF trio in this grow as the food supply, and about starting mine i may start around 1.5 weeks depending on the response and growth rate of the plant.

I will be running an 18/6 light schedule through out the grow to make this a painless as possible, this will also allow for the plant that i am honing in my LST skills on to veg for a around two months. Once i harvest the Purps male or female, ill cut the lights for the other plant.

I will be growing out any males to collect pollen for future seed stock as part of this. This way i can build seed stock and then cross it on a branch of my blue hash.

well i was talking to someone pretty recently all about mazars because he done a lot of research on them and I know that the mazar is often purple so they could be good. I think the purple gems are pretty much sold out all over already so just a heads up. Just wanna see some purple autos :)

This is the reason i want to breed i am glad i got my hands on these fast

for sure it's like a little purple clone. I think I am getting my hands on a purps clone myself finally.

I actually wanted to do the same thing with feeding and that photoperiod plant... What strain is it by the way?

I'll probably start the rocklock and the lemon skunk from DNA about 1month into this grow... Or when I remove the males.......

how were you planning on collecting pollen for selective breeding?

oh also I will be using 1gal pots and 20/4 lighting

this is the exact reason that I was asking about how you were planning on collecting pollen. I was/am considering leaving my strongest PJ male in with this entire grow and let him hit all my ladies (only because I can't find a method of pollen harvest that will work for my situation)...... Some purple hues in the auto GWS would look lovely I bet!

The plant that is growing around the rim of my pot is a bag seed that i planted before a few out of town trips. It took off and looks great so i decided to give LST a run with it. So i still dont know if this is male or female but i am getting some good practice in thats for sure.

If i get a male in this run i will watch as he matures and wait for the pollen sacs to drop. What i will do is when it is getting mature i will move the male out into the daylight or window area away from other plants to collect the pollen and allow sacs to mature and some to even open. This way i can get a good idea of time frame of when to harvest them to get them at there fullest, and to be able to time the opening for future reference.

I see what you mean... I don't really have any place that I can safely leave a male without risking security or accidental pollenation... I think it's going to be all or nothing this round...

I would definitely end up with:
pjxpj (Purple Jems)
pjxgws (Purple Jems x Great White Shark)
pjxhbd (Purple Jems x Himalaya Blue Diesel)
pjxsm (Purple Jems x Short Mix 1&3)


those would make for some tasty crosses and some interesting building blocks for future breeding!

what do you think guys? One big seed run? Or is it alot of wasted work to get a whole crop full of seeds?

I think it depends on what you want. I may also take the aproach of letting it seed if i get a male and female on this first run. I have plenty of room out side to take the male out if i want. Just need the corn and peas get a little higher in the garden hopefully by the time he is ready to spread some love they'll be high enough to move him out side.

I've currently got some PJs growing that are about 3 weeks from finish....good looking plants. I collected pollin from a male pj and pollinated a couple of buds so I could have seeds. They're not quite purple yet but I can see it creeping in.....
